RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 120d (1 reply)

There was just enough frost here last night to partially kill off the pumpkin vine, so today is officially pumpkin harvesting day. There are a couple of little fruits that were put out late that are still nowhere near ripe, hopefully there is enough life left in the vine to ripen those off before it dies off completely, but even if not it has been very productive.

Edit: ::: spoiler The harvest is in! Many pumpkins, sunbaking :::

cats need to stop making me do emergency vet runs plz.

Sammy had an hour long vomiting jag, hunched and avoidant. So of course after the billable consult while they're taking his blood pressure he lets off a massive fart and is fine.

Ginger cats fart more than any other colour cats.... glad to know that he is okay though.

Max farts more than our original three (two of them ginger) have across 14 years. Sammy was supposed to be the good one!

Hi.

My name isn't Simon, and I'm addicted to scrabble on my ipad.

It started off with a Disney version, and now I'm onto the official one.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 120d (2 replies)

Hi, My name is CEO and I have an addiction to bowls. I bought more on Friday. With matching plates. I didn't need them but they make them pretty so it's not my fault.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 120d

I tried but the constant ads annoyed me too much.

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 120d

Opened what I thought was a sealed container and got a face full of pantry moths (EWWWW) so it appears my quick clean up the other day was not enough. So cooking morning became all out pantry war morning. Oh well, everything old that was not sealed (and passed inspection) kept, new stuff had already been frozen overnight, everything else chucked. Wipe down and dosed up the cedar balls with more oil and hung back up. Ugh. I buy a lot of stuff in bulk which is more convenient and cheaper but I had been getting lazy with the freezing and sealing.

Quick break then back to it. I shall have a belly and freezer full of lamb tagine by the end of the day.

TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 120d (2 replies)

Laundry nearly done - one more load to go. I put a pork hock in the slow cooker last night and now it's been strained, the meat separated and the stock is chilling for fat removal. Peas are soaking - Pea & Ham soup coming up! Short shopping trip later then chill for the rest of the day.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 120d (1 reply)

Oh! Not quite cold enough for me to go into hock mode, but it's so delicious and batch goes for days.

TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 120d

Yass! One of my faves, and the stock freezes so well so I'm stocked up for quite a while.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 120d (5 replies)

migraine day 2. The cat is guarding me.

Edit: The people next door are looking after their kids piece of shit yappy cunt dogs. I lost it before and yelled at them to shut the fuck up. Thankfully they took the pieces of shit indoors.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 120d (4 replies)

Do you know the cause or is it possibly withdrawl from the nicotine? If it's sinus, get a heated wheatbag across your face.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 120d (3 replies)

It's the pieces of shit next door. It's been like this for a week and it's really fucking stressful because it's literally all day.

Seems screaming at them over the fence has alerted their spastic fuck wit babysitters to put them inside.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 120d (2 replies)

Get the council on them too. They're only putting it outside because they can't stand it inside, hate that shit. Fix your fucking problem instead of expanding its radius

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 120d (1 reply)

Good idea.

Otherwise I'm going to ring the rspca and tell them they're being neglected.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 120d

I asked about doing that and they donโ€™t tend to do anything unless the animal doesnโ€™t have food and water

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 120d (2 replies)

I added some craft into my plans for the day - working out how to cut down the oversupply of coles bags into little gift bags I can use for my excess produce. It took a bit of fiddling but I have now worked out a fairly simple way of cutting them down and folding them. No tape or glue required. I'm rather impressed with myself and am trying to decide if I have the skills and energy required to do a tutorial I can put online, because I think they are rather nifty.

::: spoiler Edit: oops, forgot the pic! :::

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 120d

That looks awesome!

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 120d

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 120d (1 reply)

I've had a good day in the garden. Harvested the pumpkins, cut back the very exhuberant saltbush, planted the brassica seedlings and done a bit of general tidying up. It's amazing to think that just one year ago this garden didn't even exist.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 120d

Productive day! I made a big batch of pumpkin soup this weekend. Eating some for lunches this week, and froze the rest for soup on demand.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 120d

It's looking like a lovely day today (after a very cold start) and I'm looking forward to getting out in the garden. I've got a couple of punnets of brassicas to plant, weeds to pull and some mulch to put down. I also want to do a bit more work on establishing the edging of the beds and mow the grass. But tomorrow looks like it will be lovely too, so I can take my time and finish anything I don't get to tomorrow.

I think autumn is my favourite season, it has some lovely weather that is not too hot or too cold, without as much wind and bluster as you get in Spring. Plus you are winding down in the vegie garden and tidying up after the summer harvest season, so it doesn't have the sense of an overwhelming amount of work building up to be done like Spring does.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 120d

it's 3 out there , that's a very quick slide into cold nights

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 120d (3 replies)

Can't believe how lost I got last night. Ended up using the stars for bearings to get home which brought back memories lol.

Stars are still useful for navigation when you have a useless cheapo phone.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 120d (2 replies)

Any guides to that? I think I can find north-ish using the saucepan which is vaguely west going by the setting sun, but thatโ€™s about it.

I used to navigate by memory but now thatโ€™s gone

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 120d (1 reply)

Yup I use stellarium wihich is free and easy :)

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 120d

Cheers, Iโ€™ll take a look. Thereโ€™s not much I can see from here and I may not remember much of the info but itโ€™s interesting

Edit: Thatโ€™s so weird. The Big Dipper/Ursa Major which the Saucepan is from is shown to be in the north east, where on a night it was visible I thought it north west because it looked closer to the setting sun.

Yet it must be showing me the southern hemisphere because Orion is upside down and itโ€™s using my location.

I wonder if the Big Dipper travels in a circle as the earth turns so it can be seen in different areas and different rotations. I wish this had been taught in school.

I decided to dig my camera out of the draw since I got my kids' one each recently. I thought it might have been done for since it hasn't been used since 2018, but i still have it's specific charger and specific cable. After a couple of hours on charge it booted up

Iโ€™ve been asleep all day. Everything feels so empty and I just donโ€™t want to be awake for it.

::: spoiler spoiler Edit: Check camera to see if situation is resolved. Cat was out the front for a drink last night, half an hour before curfew ๐Ÿซฉ

This is fucking sad, I think I care more about this catโ€™s wellbeing than his owners do. Unfortunately Iโ€™m just going to have to hole up inside to not get myself infected again, and hope that he loses interest in this place in favour of the good food at home.

I canโ€™t make someone take care of their cat or take them to the vet. All I can do is wait til thereโ€™s something the RSPCA would take seriouslyโ€ฆ (Usually if the animal has food and water and isnโ€™t seriously injured they shrug and move on.) And I donโ€™t want to have to pull that move.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 121d (2 replies)

Itโ€™s very coldโ€ฆ I hope little man has been kept inside. Risking neighbour tension and gifting the expensive stuff will be worth it if heโ€™s safe and warm.

::: spoiler spoiler Feeling super guilty that cats are in shelters while I have a โ€˜vacancyโ€™. Especially the seniors in kill shelters. Thereโ€™s a long term shelter cat at the Lost Dogs Home for $20, her name is Cookie.

But Iโ€™m really not feeling emotionally ready for another cat and am worried about the costs. Especially if it was another senior or special needs cat that would be my first choice but need a lot of vet care. I donโ€™t know. I really need to be ready for another pet and I am not. I donโ€™t know when Iโ€™m ever going to be. Iโ€™m still missing Melbcat and just want her back. :::

Weekend plans totally kyboshed, His Lordship spent the night in the dining room with the boys and now we're basically watching sammy like hawks waiting for A Poop. We get a good'un and we know the tube is clear tip to tail.

melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 120d

If itโ€™s just simple constipation you might be able to give him some Osmolax (like 1/8 to 1/4 tsp) mixed in wet food with hot water until you get a good output. Half a Microlax enema (well lubed) will get results fast and hopefully help him pass all of it.

However I donโ€™t know everything so maybe donโ€™t use these if something like a blockage is suspected.

I hope things resolve soon, emergency vets arenโ€™t cheap :(
