2:51 / km. 1k record is 2:11.

Would be:

  • 14 min 5k
  • 28 min 10 k

Or, as I call it "all out sprint".

There are lots of funny videos of people trying to run this pace.

Ya, having run 3 marathons and two 50ks I very much appreciate how unbelievable that time is...

It's like the elite runners are not really human :)

Great job on the marathons. I actually only accidentally replied to you instead of top level comment.

:), I do stand by my simple comment "amazing"

It really is hard to comprehend the pace they have to run to do that.

imagine breaking the world marathon record with a 2:00:28 run, and ONLY coming in 3rd place...
imagine breaking the world marathon record with a 2:00:28 run, and not even making it to the headline.... kiplimo get's a passing mention in the 7th paragraph of the article....

Never thought I would see this, outside of specifically setup events. The need for everything to go perfectly, and the course to be sufficiently balanced towards a fast run, meant the odds were—as I saw them—tiny.

This seems to have been something he was training towards, and took advantage on the day of everyng falling into place. Amazing achievement, and a record that will likely stay for some time.
