Once upon a time it was safe to walk or take the tram around the city. Not any more. It's so sad.

Pilk@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 2y (7 replies)

This feels like a little bit of a leap.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y (6 replies)

Nah Pilko I can tell you now as a a 46 year old who has frequented the city their whole life it is getting worse.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 2y (5 replies)

Yeah nah, 90's were worse

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y (4 replies)

I don't think so. I remember people nodding off on trams and trains. I remember the hari kristners begging, the odd dero who's pissed himself, the drunks. I don't ever remember the violence that commuters are experiencing today.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 2y (3 replies)

I remember people getting glasses smashed on them outside y&j. I remember drunk cunts getting very fucking rapey around flinders. I remember a lot of queer bashings.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y

I get that and things weren't reported like they are now but I don't remember cunts wanted to start fights because they've been up for 4 days straight.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 2y

Just went down a travelator behind a man who had jammed the trolley hard against the side of the travelator side, and it was making this horrid scraping noise as it was going , scraping a dent/scratch into the side of escalator. Man either totally unaware or could not give a fuck. I was thinking how sad it is how much the public just trash stuff and how much it must cost to be constantly fixing things, no wonder everything is expensive. This is why we canโ€™t have nice things.

I have an older cat and have been on the medical merry go round of working out whatโ€™s wrong. Perhaps thereโ€™s something that sounds similar to an issue weโ€™ve solved, an idea of where to go next.

~ Obligatory โ€˜I am not a veterinarianโ€™ disclaimer ~

We have had a little of that, it was a fissure from constipation. But not to the extreme. It was a tiny smear of bright fresh blood as an isolated incident.

It could be so many things so if you find this vet isnโ€™t taking you seriously you are within your rights to see another vet or another practice for a second opinion. Youโ€™re around them more and see things the vets donโ€™t. It took me a long time to be believed and figure out Melbcatโ€™s nebulous pain but it turned out there were multiple genuine causes which are now being treated.

It could be an ulcer, inflammatory bowel disease, eaten a foreign object, a grass seed worked its way into the anus, ingested a chemical, parasites, bacterial or viral infection, blood disorders, cancer, injury, severe irritation from food intolerances or allergy, polyps, colitis etc

Itโ€™s very hard when they canโ€™t talk.

Itโ€™s worth looking at everything else surrounding it for clues. If there have been any changes like diarrhoea re the Bristol stool chart, presence and location of any pain, changes in appetite, nausea (lip smacking or reluctance to eat) vomiting or gas, when does it happen? Is the blood bright and fresh which may indicate the issue is down closer to the anus, or is it older and brown, or is it partially digested like coffee grounds? Is there any mucus which may indicate inflammation? Jelly like stool which is extreme inflammation? Weird colour like yellow or green which may indicate too fast transit, or a greasy appearance? Signs of worms?

It sounds overwhelming but maybe just jot down what/when heโ€™s eaten and the time/details of him moving his bowels to see if thereโ€™s any patterns or anything unusual. Perhaps give them a sample.

And check if thereโ€™s been any warnings about baits or sicknesses like feline panleukopenia/parvovirus in your area. There have been Australian breakouts in recent months.

The more concrete info you have the more of an idea you can get and the harder it is to dismiss.

I made baby cheesecakes last night. Very easy to do.

::: spoiler baby cheesecakes ::: I used a block of philly cheese (Manhatten from aldi) at room temperature. Added a half a jar of lemon curd. A tiny bit of milk and a tablespoon of icing sugar. Gave it a stir until all combined. Put a butter nut biscuit in the muffin patty pan and top it with my mixture. Put them in the fridge to set.

You can make them with your choice of jam and biscuits.

That was a cold freaking walk back to the accom. 10C feels like 3, hectic winds, spattering rain - and now lots of wooshing and swooshing while I'm trying to settle down in bed. Pros and cons to getting accom with palms right out the window.

Absolutely fabulous day otherwise, was a bit nervous/overwhelmed at first but met heaps of good folks today. Weather aside, only downside was I think I had too much dairy in the dessert and got straight up liquid shits (scrambled to the toilet just in time). Or maybe it was the wine. I don't know but my gut definitely feels unsettled, still. I need a substantial breakfast tomorrow to make up for it. Ninight.

Exactly the sort of thing I wanted to avoid and why I was willing to take a paycut otherwise why not just work as a contractor?

Whats on for the weekend everyone? Tonight im heading to a party at Max Watts run by the Rainbow Serpent crew, should be massive!! Tomorrow night will be moving my current mead to secondary to age on oak!! Sunday i have an axe throwing marathon, its only 2 weeks till the Asia Pacific Champs and Sunday will have 10 or more of the current top 20 in Australia throwing so will be a really good warm up :)

phant@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y (3 replies)

That sounds like an awesome weekend! Will you be competing against the big guns? Are there amateur/novice divisions, or is it all or nothing?

00Steve@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y (2 replies)

I will be competing against the big guns yes, im currently ranked 6th in Australia in the ruleset the marathon is running in. There is essentially two rules sets, standard and premier, premier requires a much higher level of accuracy but anyone can compete in either rule set. The marathons are usually capped at 24 people, so there will be a pretty big range of skills. The Asia Pacific Champs in 2 weeks is an invite only finals under the premier rule set, there were qualifiers around Australia early this year, the top 2 from each venue went straight into finals and then the rest of the spots went to the people with the highest averages in qualifying :)

phant@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y (1 reply)

That's awesome! Congrats on qualifying and good luck this weekend!

I've got a disc golf comp on Sunday. Teams match play format, so a bit different to usual and should be fun.

Another question. At your level in axe throwing, is it largely mental game that decides the winner, or other factors?

00Steve@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y

Yeh everyone can throw really well, so consistency and doing well under pressure are really important. The mental part is definitely where i need to work on the most, the closer i can get in match play to the way i throw in practice the happier ill be :)

It has not been a good week. The weekend will be spent recovering from the week.

(Kid) Footy and Hockey seasons are finally over. This is the first weekend of not needing to up at 7am for various sports. I need to get my sleep cycle under control. Spent a day and a half sick/sleeping and I'm still not quite back to normal. My watch says I slept from 3am to 7am, but it isn't counting the bit where I crashed at 8pm and slept to nearly midnight.

Also, a friend/workmate passed away this week. We're gathering this evening for drinks and memories/tears. He was roughly my age, with kids a little over my kids' ages. This feels too close to home, like that could have been me but for a roll of fate's dice. It could be my kids facing life without their dad. Cancer sucks.

just_kitten@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 2y

Belated, but sorry to hear about your mate. Reading that gave me chills, just imagining it happening to me or someone my siblings' ages, though I have no children. That's particularly rough when it's someone you worked with. Hope you've got some good strategies for handling the grief at work.

so I've figured out car wise what Im going to do. I've all but sold my car to pay for the mrs's car's loan. then im gonna get her car limping, sell it off and buy something brand new with a warranty. Its gonna cost a fortune, but given I stand to lose close to 20k on her car, and I'm having to sell mine to offset that I dont see we have a lot of other options. What do I do if I buy second hand and it blows up again? But I hear back from the diagnostics (mid next week) I dont know how much its going to cost to fix (If even possible). So I dont know the financial damage so I cant really order anything. Stressful. I just want this done and buried so I can move on.

ChatGPT says that could make a very interesting chicken pot pie.

::: spoiler Chicken pot pie recipe from ChatGPT G'day! You've got some versatile ingredients there. How about making a Chicken and Vegetable Pot Pie with a twist? Here's a simple recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 chicken breast
  • 1/3 pack of pork mince
  • Bacon (a few slices, as much as you like)
  • 1/4 pumpkin
  • 2 parsnips
  • Red and yellow capsicum
  • 1 sheet of pastry
  • Various spices from your cabinet (like salt, pepper, paprika, thyme, and oregano)
  • Leftover salsa
  • Pantry basics (flour, butter, milk)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200ยฐC (180ยฐC fan-forced).

  2. Dice the chicken breast and bacon. In a pan, cook the bacon until it's crispy. Remove it from the pan and set it aside.

  3. In the same pan, cook the chicken until it's no longer pink. Remove and set aside.

  4. In the same pan, add the pork mince and brown it. Drain any excess fat.

  5. While the meat is cooking, chop your veggies (pumpkin, parsnips, and capsicums) into bite-sized pieces.

  6. In a separate pot, make a basic white sauce. Melt some butter, stir in flour, and gradually add milk until you have a creamy consistency. Season it with salt, pepper, and any other spices you like from your spice cabinet.

  7. Combine the cooked chicken, bacon, pork mince, and veggies in the pot with your white sauce. Add a few spoonfuls of leftover salsa for extra flavor.

  8. Roll out your pastry sheet and place it over a baking dish. Pour the chicken and veggie mixture into the dish.

  9. Fold the pastry over the top to make a pie crust. Brush it with a bit of milk to give it a nice golden color.

  10. Pop the whole dish in the oven and bake for about 30-40 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

Enjoy your Aussie-style Chicken and Vegetable Pot Pie! Feel free to season it with your favorite spices for that extra kick. :::

Note I've given ChatGPT custom instructions that I'm in Australia and sometimes it goes overboard. But at least it uses Celsius by default.

Ok so you have a few different meals there. Fry up the mince and bacon. Add in some spice. Halve the capsicums and stuff them. Bake until soft. Top with grated cheese. Put them back in until cheese has melted. Any left over mixture make triangles with the pastry.

Roast pumpkin and parsnips. Poach/grill/Fry chicken boob.

Salami, cheese, bread = jaffle.

Salsa will go with all 3
