Not exactly a dandelion, but probably some salsify.

I'd say that's right. I've never seen one before, and neither has anyone at work

Yeah those aren't dandelion leaves. If it is salsify, OP, wait until fall, after the first frost, and dig up the roots, they're edible and apparently tasty!

Can anyone send me the link for the tiny novelty sharpies?

RattlerSix@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 129d

I'm not sure but whenever I need a pen I go to penisland.net, they might have some small ones

Staples sells them. I have one on my keychain.

If the leaves are not shaped like lion's tooth, you've got the wrong plant. A very cool wrong plant.

Have you tried barely mowing for 3 years?

That really helped get rid of my dandelions. We spent years pulling but their taproots can be pretty deep and break off.

It turns out that if you don’t give them a cut down monoculture lawn with no competition dandelions don’t thrive as much.

We’ve got some wild strawberry and white clover that have taken over parts of the yard. The strawberries are like the size of my pinky fingernail. The clover gets very bushy which is pleasant to walk in and the rabbits like eating the flowers.

The dandelions are severely reduced.

Did you mean Woodland Strawberries?

Edit: Dandelions thrive in soil with lots of nutrients. So if you stop cutting them and let everything use all those nutrients, they will struggle to grow. Instead of grass and dandelions, new wildflowers start to grow. At some point even your clover will thin down a bit and make room for beautiful and much needed species.

Just cut your lawn once at the end of the season and make sure to remove all the cuts from the ground. The wildflowers will have left seeds for the next year to grow.

That certainly looks like them

And, we are getting a lot of wild flowers now, we didn’t even have to plant them.

The yard seems happy enough

Update: I found a family of them. The first one was behind the building I work at on one side. I was on the other side today and found these. photo of 8-10 plants that look like gigantic dandelions

No banana for scale so must have small hands.
