[Controller] Think these people will be disappointed

"IN 16 CARTS"

Maybe the original controller's case will work? But probably not that great. I hope they release a case for the new one.

"We can't name it Steam Controller 2. People would be confused"

I really wish marketing departments would switch to better cocaine, sometimes

mushroommunk@lemmy.today · 43 pts · 96d (9 replies)

Even just doing the car thing and calling it "steam controller 2026" would have been fine

givesomefucks@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 96d (5 replies)

I legitimately don't know what the big deal is, Ive had a Steam Controller for years...

But yeah, I thought dualsense/dualshock was bad, but steam controller/steam controller is goddamn ridiculous

thingsiplay@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 96d (3 replies)

What will they do if there is a new Steam Controller in the future? Name it Steam Controller again? Or name it Steam Controller 2? Then every reference in the web to Steam Controller 2 would be hell confusing. I don't hope this is the start of bad naming like Microsoft got themselves into with Xbox consoles.

big_slap@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 96d

they can pull a Nintendo and call it New Steam Controller lmao

balgruuf@nord.pub · 3 pts · 95d

We still have two episodes and a spinoff coming.

dabaldeagul@feddit.nl · 3 pts · 95d

"We at Valve are excited to announce the Steam Controller 2, the third iteration of our Steam Controller"

ouRKaoS@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 96d

Xbox: Hold my beer

thingsiplay@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 96d

Or just Steam Pad.

Quibblekrust@thelemmy.club · 4 pts · 96d (1 reply)

Wait, there were 2025 previous versions of the Steam Controller?

Sculptor9157@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 94d

Yes! They get released annually to celebrate COVID.

savvywolf@pawb.social · 24 pts · 96d (11 replies)

Steam Controller One.

Still have no idea why Microsoft did that.

SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de · 19 pts · 96d (9 replies)

"New 3DS" is still the worst name, tbf

yermaw@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 96d

New Super Mario Bros made sense for a short while, but is destined to cause nerd-fights for decades to come.

Quibblekrust@thelemmy.club · 3 pts · 96d

Not worse than Wii U!

Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 96d (6 replies)

Not really, the New 3DS came after the 3DS but still shared the library

Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 95d (1 reply)

Ehhh it’s kinda bad. I love my N3DSXL but even the abbreviation is a bit of a pain to type on a mobile device.

On eBay there is a

Used Japanese New Nintendo 3DS XL LL Pokemon Solgaleo Lunala console

which is pretty funny

Quibblekrust@thelemmy.club · 2 pts · 93d

I have the Mojora's Mask version, but I stored the power adapter in the same bag as the console and went on a road trip and the whole back of the shell got terribly scuffed. 😖 Like gouged, even. The little folding plug had opened up and sat there vibrating against the shell for hours.

SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de · 3 pts · 95d (3 replies)

How will you refer to it if a followup gets released? Or you sell an old used one? Make sure to not cause potential confusion

slowcakes@programming.dev · 1 pts · 95d

Well they did, it's called switch. Otherwise they've could keep the gameboy for all their handheld devices.

Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 95d

Add the year it was made. E.g. Steam Controller (2016) [with or without parentheses], Steam Controller (2025), New 3DS (2015), New 3DS (2033)

floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 95d

Just call it New New 3DS duh

balgruuf@nord.pub · 5 pts · 96d

720 would be bad and 3 would be behind sony.

DisasterTransport@startrek.website · 5 pts · 95d (2 replies)

Well if they called it Steam Controller 2 what would they call the next one?

Railcar8095@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 94d (1 reply)

Steam controller 2 - Episode 1

Steam controller 2 - Episode 2

Steam controller ??????

Rubanski@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 94d

I didn't even know the original has a case

callouscomic@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 95d (1 reply)

It's a really nice case. Still have mine after over 10 years.

DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth · 1 pts · 95d

I must have lost mine and forgot about it.

Quibblekrust@thelemmy.club · 3 pts · 96d

I do hope someone makes a good case for the new Steam Controller. I like my Spigen brand Steam Deck case more than the Valve one, so maybe they'll make a similar one for the controller that has a nice zippered pocket for the puck and a USB cable.

Natanael@slrpnk.net · 1 pts · 96d (2 replies)

It's not gonna fit. Complete change to the shape.

Bazoogle@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 96d (1 reply)

Surprisingly, as someone else commented, it waa confirmed to fit. https://i.redd.it/74n3p6wjsyzg1.jpeg

Natanael@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 96d

I guess the case left a fair bit of margin 🤷

The old joystick is in roughly the same distance from the center so it should close too I guess

panda_abyss@lemmy.ca · -5 pts · 96d (5 replies)

Everything you see on there prudent page is a lie.

Look up e-commerce social proof apps.

They just show fake results, it should legally be fraud.

Bazoogle@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 96d (4 replies)

Are you saying the "16 in cart" and "470 sold" are a lie? In most cases, that would be true. However eBay does show real stats. Sellers can confirm what is being shown, and eBay shows real numbers. Now how much those mean is a different story.

panda_abyss@lemmy.ca · -3 pts · 96d (3 replies)

Didn’t know that’s eBay, but u stand by what I said.

They’re definitely counting abandoned and inactive carts in that stat.

SolSerkonos@piefed.social · 16 pts · 96d

I'd argue 'abandoned and inactive' is different than 'fake' and you're kinda moving the goalposts.

Bazoogle@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 96d (1 reply)

They’re definitely counting abandoned and inactive carts in that stat.

Sure. Plenty of people use the shopping cart to save items too, without a strong intention of buying it.

That is still very different from those scam sites that literally generate a random number.

sloppy_diffuser@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 95d

I do this all time waiting for the price to go down during a sale or to get a "You forgot something in your cart" discount. If its a vendor I only buy from 1-2 a year it will likely sit there for 6-12 months.
