Okay, that’s just funny

perishthethought@piefed.social · 27 pts · 103d (9 replies)

... the first few times, but then after that...

Davel23@fedia.io · 73 pts · 103d (5 replies)

How often are you dropping your controller?

otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 32 pts · 103d (2 replies)

Frankly, I think this is their way of asking nicely, "Please, take good care of this one in particularβ€” or it'll scream like a magic white boy jungle savior, and nobody wants that, right?" πŸ€”

Yeah, but they're just thirsty by nature. πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ Kinda goes without saying. 😝

i'm more clumsy than i'd care to admit. also i have cats. and once i sneezed and knocked over an entire row of schooldesks without touching them. and i have cats. probably four or five times a session if i'm using that controller?

samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 20 pts · 103d

Maybe it will help remind you not to throw your controller around!

Skankhunt420@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 103d

Surely there would be a way to disable it altogether

bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de · 4 pts · 103d

Supposedly it only does it every 5-6 times.

tempest@lemmy.ca · 42 pts · 103d (10 replies)

I legit hate the trend of sound designers sneaking that into media. It immediately pulls me out of the story.

RaoulDook@lemmy.world · 53 pts · 103d (7 replies)

It's not a trend, it's a long-standing tradition spanning decades. It's hilarious.

mushroommunk@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 102d (6 replies)

It was fine the first thirty years but now it's no longer a fun Easter egg. So many sound engineers don't think one bit about where they're putting it like in the middle of emotional climax scenes where people are getting bloodied in the face of a nigh impossible uphill battle and stuff.

Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 11 pts · 102d (3 replies)

It was fine the first thirty years but now

..sounds like you're just getting old and cranky tbh 🀷🏻

I'm 43 and the number of things that haven't bothered me for decades only to become a source of endless exasperation for no apparent reason in the last 5 or fewer years isn't enormous, but it's not zero either πŸ€·πŸ»πŸ˜„

mushroommunk@lemmy.today · 5 pts · 102d (2 replies)

You're ten years or so older than me. I'm just passionate about movies.

Now the actual kids on my actual lawn....

You're ten years or so older than me

Some cranky old men get there early 🀷🏻😁

Now the actual kids on my actual lawn....

Damn, look at Richie Rich over he-ah with his own lawn! πŸ˜›

I share with anyone who brings a cold one or something for the grill

RaoulDook@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 102d (1 reply)

IDK, that scenario still sounds funny to me

mushroommunk@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 102d

Sure if it was an action comedy, but that doesn't belong in a drama

Minnels@lemmy.zip · 21 pts · 103d

Why would you drop your controller like that in the middle of a game? Unless you play eternal darkness I guess, the only game I have ever thrown away my controller...

duplexsystem@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 7 pts · 102d

I bet this guys fun at parties

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 22 pts · 103d

"Hey Steam support uh... I was triggering the easter egg and my controller broke. Hm? Where did I drop it? From the roof."

Also: Will it also scream if shot by a gun? πŸ€”

bright@piefed.social · 17 pts · 103d (13 replies)

Why does a controller have a speaker in it?

Davel23@fedia.io · 82 pts · 103d (4 replies)

It doesn't. The haptic motors which provide vibration and tactile feedback can be used to produce sound.

Ulrich@feddit.org · 14 pts · 103d (2 replies)

Doesn't that make them speakers, technically?

Davel23@fedia.io · 21 pts · 103d

I suppose the argument could be made. It's not their primary function though.

I wonder if they function any way similar to the mic/speaker polydirectional thing. πŸ˜…

imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 16 pts · 103d

Remember those floppy, printer, other old hardware noise music videos? Something like this one. Steam Controller works kind of in a similar way. Tiny motors are able to squeak fast enough to produce multiple waveforms that mimick sound.

Dunstabzugshaubitze@feddit.org · 14 pts · 103d

haptic feedback of the touchpads can be used to produce sounds.

ricecake@sh.itjust.works · 12 pts · 103d

Plenty of controllers do. They can be used for multiplayer in place of a headset. Some games will also use them for non-world audio, like an audio log or a mission update. You can also use them in conjunction with haptics for communicating menu interaction. A different timbre of click for allowed vs disallowed, for example.

HEXN3T@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 9 pts · 103d

For Wii emulation obviously

piccolo@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 102d (2 replies)

The playstation controllers have a speaker. A lot of games use them for interesting things. Like in some games where you can find voice recorders, the recording will play through the controller as if your holding it.

LiveLM@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 102d

Dying Light did that on the PS4, pretty neat!

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 102d

it's neat having the bowstrings ftht from the controller

couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 103d

Read in a game review that used a PS (?) controller speaker for radio messages that this worked great for immersion

amgine@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 103d (2 replies)

I tried to read it but the Adblock pop up prevented me

MrSoup@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 103d

I don't see any popup with ublock origin. Anyway, inside the description, I linked the OG youtube video referenced in the article.

darkstar@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 102d

Your adblock is from Temu, get uBlock Origin its the original

VoteNixon2016@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 103d

It took me a few times dropping it onto the couch to get it to trigger, now I'm wondering what other Easter eggs are in here
