Hell yea! Drums are sooo fun and a great place to start. I tried to start with bass but have serious problems with maintaining rhythm. The drums have really helped with understanding rhythm. Keep it up and most importantly have fun!

For that I recommend “mindless noodling” Set a metronome (important!!) Then set your fingers on the fretboard and just start playing notes in time with the metronome.

You can start just doing E: 1-2-3-4 A: ————-1-2-3-4 D: —————————1-2-3-4 G: —————————————-1-2-3-4

And then back down the same way. What you’re looking for is each note is on time and the same intensity.

It’s easy to do and genuinely helps.

After a set, move to a different position but play the same shapes. You can also move from 1-2-3-4 to something else, like 4-1-2-3 or whatever.

Tinkered with bass when I was a kid - it was my dad's. Been so long since I did but, now I have my own many many years later :) It is a joy to get involved with a musical instrument no matter when! And we all start from the beginning.

I have to say that small starting point like you have shared is a great example! A slap bass tutorial I saw earlier today compares it to wax on, wax off, from The Karate Kid.

How is the Alésia kit? I’m in the market and I see those a lot and they seem more affordable than Roland ou Yamaha.

its awesome! my dad who is really good at drums played on it and had no complaints, you can absolutely learn and record on it :) I want an acoustic kit some day when I'm not in a shared apartment lol

Neat thanks for the feedback :) I saw an artist that was using an edrum and their voice in a weird mix of electro and drums - it's crazy what one can do with those kits. I wish you the best in learning the drums!

I have tested them at Thomann and can recomend the "Millenium MPS-750X" which I bought. It has the price of Alesis, the hardware similar to Yamaha/Roland (HiHat with mechanical pedal, mesh drumheads, multi sensor cymbals) and a good sound module with a lot of features.

How does a drum work?

Whack stick on membrane. Membrane vibrates. Air vibrates. Membrane in your ear vibrates.

This one is an electronic drum set so it detects the hit and makes the according sound.

If you remember Rock Band/Guitar Hero, I highly recommebd YARG(Yet Another Rhythm Game)! You can plug the drum kit in via usb and learn a bit of pro drums! You can add a ton of songs from rhythmverse.co of all kinda of artists.

Theres always time for a jam sesh! Music is the best, i think it can transcend culture and language barriers and is one of the few things humans have that can do that. ❤️
