'Bond Villain' Jeff Bezos Claims 'You Could Double the Taxes I Pay' and It Won't Help Anyone | Common Dreams

https://www.commondreams.org/news/jeff-bezos-taxes-cnbc

Jeff Bezos is so much more boring, lame and devoid of personality than a Bond Villain though it physically hurts my brain to try to relate the two in my head.

I agree with Bezos here. We should be taxing him dramatically more than double of what he's currently paying.

AngryRedHerring@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 91d (5 replies)

Double nothing is still nothing

Bezos paying any tax at all would be an improvement

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 12 pts · 91d (4 replies)

I think what he's referring to is that even if you taxed him more right now, that money would just go to funding the trump admin, bombs, and ICE...

Just kidding, I don't think he actually cares about those things.

I almost left off the last sentence but then I remembered satire doesn't always transfer well over text

PunnyName@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 90d (1 reply)

He wants more of those things. As does the rest of the Dark Enlightenment assholes.

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 3 pts · 90d

Yeah, but they won't fund it through tax dollars, more like direct "donations" and kickbacks to the corrupt politicians and evil organizations implementing the agenda.

Bingo!

Zombiepirate@lemmy.world · 45 pts · 91d

It would be a massive benefit to all of us even if we burned all of his money in a dumpster rather than redistributing it.

Having billionaires who can buy elections or monopolize markets is inherently destabilizing to society. His dragon horde was captured by exploitation, and it should be returned to the people who actually earned it.

Which is why we need a billionaire wealth tax too, and to close tax loopholes that allow the rich to pay close to nothing.

Or we could tax him at 75% and he'd still be filthy rich. Fuck these rich assholes.

Well… under the current administration, one could argue that he’s right.

RamenJunkie@midwest.social · 18 pts · 90d (1 reply)

Nobody wants to double thentaxes on the uber wealthy. We want way way more than double. Personally, I like 100% on "wealth"/"net worth" over 10 million dollars.

isles@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 90d

After you hit $1 billion, just a total reset to 0. They're all pretty confident they can get there again easily, so shouldn't really be a problem. Enjoy your little spotlight in Forbes.

pHr34kY@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 91d

Doubling his taxes won't do much.

Taxing him at 50% will.

NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone · 16 pts · 91d (1 reply)

Why not then, as it won’t harm him either?

It's almost as bad as his wife's

Double 0. In front of a bond-villain-style rocket.

harsh3466@lemmy.ml · 15 pts · 90d

2 x 0 = 0

So yeah. Of course it won't. All those loopholes and tax shelters they've paid to have written into the tax code need to be closed. They need to be taxed out of existence (as in billionaires shouldn't exist)

So what you're saying is that we should be taking more, a LOT more? We should keep taking until it does help somebody?

I can get down with that.

CaptMurica@beehaw.org · 6 pts · 90d

They should double his taxes and then double them again and again and again and again. Billionaires should not exist.

OldGrayDog@fedinsfw.app · 6 pts · 91d

Let's find out.

laz@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 6 pts · 90d

Yes doubling it won't help it needs to be 33% flat for him and Amazon which is probably more than 5 times

Clutter@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 90d

Which is why we need to quintuple it. And keep doubling it from there until morale has improved globally.

Tax billionaires on the assets they control, till they're millionaires.

Hmmm, maybe make into a gameshow and call it "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 2"

I'd venture that setting his effective rate to the same as everybody else's would make the amount a lot more than double

Financial obesity is an existential threat to any society that tolerates it, and needs to cease being celebrated, rewarded, and positioned as an aspirational goal.

Corporations are the only ‘persons’ which should be subjected to capital punishment, but billionaires should be euthanised through taxation.

Jankatarch@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 90d

Double it AND enforce it too. Problem solved.

Avicenna@programming.dev · 2 pts · 91d

He has a point because currently Trump decides what gets done with taxes.

Madison420@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 90d

Of course, that's why taxes for multi millionaires and upwards should be percentages based on income, civil contribution, participation and national financial participation (ie. Where is the money made v where is it spent or sequestered.)
