EXPLAINING THE JOKE FOR WHO DIDN'T GET IT: (movie spoilers)

::: spoiler spoiler This is about the movie My Girl, which is about a hypocondriac girl and a boy (on the lower image) with tons of allergies, one of them being bees, who develop a friendship. At the movie, the girl drops her ring near a beehive, and the boy goes to look for it, only to get stung by bees and die due to his allergy. :::

he can’t see without his glasses!

When I first watched it, that part was hard to watch

MajinBlayze@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 96d

Did you lose your glasses too?

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 5 pts · 96d

Wow, Wickerman will never hit the same way again after reading this...

Uhhhhhh.....

MeowerMisfit817@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 96d (4 replies)

what did he say?

HikingVet@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 96d (3 replies)

If I remember correctly they were asking if that was all to the plot (your spoiler). Modlog says he was banned, and this comment was collateral.

MeowerMisfit817@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 96d (2 replies)

Wait, how did this manage to get him banned?

HikingVet@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 96d (1 reply)

The modlogs says vote manipulation, I don't think this is related.

MeowerMisfit817@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 96d

Hm, maybe.

db2@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 97d

Too soon

mastertigurius@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 97d (5 replies)

Ah, thanks for reminding me that this movie gem exists. I'll just go to bed and stare at the ceiling for eight hours now.

skoell13@lemmy.zip · 7 pts · 96d (3 replies)

What's the name of the movie?

ummthatguy@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 96d (2 replies)

My Girl

toynbee@piefed.social · 5 pts · 96d (1 reply)

You guys talkin' 'bout my girl, my girl, my girl?

Because, you see, I've got so much honey the bees envy me.

ummthatguy@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 96d

One of my favorite songs for karaoke.

Everybody's looking for Sasquatch

protist@retrofed.com · 9 pts · 97d (17 replies)

Why did it have to end like that?!

Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 10 pts · 97d (6 replies)

Because the writer and/or director was a sick son of a bitch 🤷🏻

SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 97d (5 replies)

I shouldn't ask because I'm sure I don't want to know... which film?

ThePantser@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 96d (2 replies)

My Girl

SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 96d (1 reply)

Ah. I never saw this one, but the way people were talking about in this thread it reminded me that the movie Happiness exists, a film I couldn't fucking finish and makes me nauseous to think of to this day...

Jiggle_Physics@quokk.au · 1 pts · 96d

Fucking love Happiness. My Girl is family friendly, it just has a sad ending.

protist@retrofed.com · 6 pts · 96d (1 reply)

It's a cute love story between two kids and then MACAULAY CULKIN DIES. HOW DOES HE DIE? BEES! MANY, MANY BEES

Doug@piefed.social · 4 pts · 97d (9 replies)

don’t worry they made a sequel

PodPerson@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 96d (6 replies)

Yep - ended up that he actually pulled through and went to live with his biological mom and touched the lives of many. It’s called “The Good Son,” and it’s a heartwarming foil to the very sad ending of My Girl.

backalleycoyote@lemmy.today · 6 pts · 96d

I thought that was end of the Home Alone trilogy, where Kevin didn’t get any help for his abandonment issues but with Harry and Marc locked up for good sought other targets for his sadism.

ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 96d

You're a fantastic individual.

Jiggle_Physics@quokk.au · 2 pts · 96d (2 replies)

Also, if you are looking for a good foreign film about family I suggest visitor Q

it is about a family that is on the brink of falling apart, until a mysterious stranger enters their lives, befriends them, and reunites them in the end.

HeyMrDeadMan@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 96d (1 reply)

I suspect you are lying as well.

Jiggle_Physics@quokk.au · 1 pts · 96d

everything I say in this comment is the truth

HeyMrDeadMan@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 96d

You sonofa bitch. You almost got me. You almost got me...

osanna@lemmy.vg · 5 pts · 96d

Which was utter shit

I didn’t even pay for it and I want my money back

protist@retrofed.com · 5 pts · 96d

Now with more bees!

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 8 pts · 96d

BUT HE CAN'T SEE WITHOUT HIS GLASSES!

Blaster_M@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 96d (1 reply)

Zozano@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 96d

A briefcase full of bees ought to put a stop to this!

Diddlydee@feddit.uk · 7 pts · 96d (8 replies)

I'd like to point out the actual lyric is 'made of this', not 'made of these' as most people hear it.

JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 6 pts · 96d (7 replies)

That's such a shame since neither word rhymes with the word "disagree."

Anyway, if what you say is true, Annie Lennox sure has a weird way of pronouncing the word "this." She pronounces it EXACTLY like the word "these." Art is weird.

Zozano@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 96d

Controversial opinion: Marilyn Manson's version is superior.

Also he says these.

merc@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 96d (4 replies)

She says more "theeeeeeis", there's a hint of an "is" sound at the end of the word.

I don't get it. It's meant to rhyme with "disagree", and it's not like the song is interpreted differently if it's "these" vs "this".

_stranger_@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 96d (3 replies)

it's called a slant rhyme, and it is the playground of the devil.

See: "Here I am, rock you like a hurricane" for another famous example of two words rhyming that don't.

merc@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 96d (1 reply)

Is that meant to rhyme?

_stranger_@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 95d

not even a little bit, but that didn't stop Lenny Kravitz.

Johanno@feddit.org · 1 pts · 96d

But "I am" and "hurricane" does rhyme

spicehoarder@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 96d

So, funny enough the actual lyric is "disagris", not "disagree" Annie Lennox just says it a little differently, but they both rhyme.

Return_of_Chippy@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 96d

Absolutely fantastic

DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 96d (1 reply)

I'm 60, and I have refused to watch My Girl to this day, because I learned how it ended back when it was released. Sometimes, spoilers are a good thing.

Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 96d

I wish I could tell you that the rest of the movie is worth it, but it really isn't.

In fact, it's how great the preceding 99% of the movie is that makes the ending many times more devastating than it otherwise would be!

sundray@lemmus.org · 2 pts · 96d

Yikes!
