I'm really enjoying getting to know this soap and playing with the Darkwing base. You can definitely hydrate the shit out this base and get a super shiny lather relatively quickly. I hydrated it enough that I was definitely wearing a bit of a lather shirt this morning even though I had no intention or desire to shave my chest.

I intend to slowly enjoy this first cup of coffee. Try to enjoy your day and remember to be kind to one another.

Welcome to piefed!

Welcome! I agree with you completely about Montrose Beach. I picked this up at the Maggard Meetup and have only used it a couple of times. Great soap base and an awesome summer scent. I'm looking forward to using it a lot more in the coming months.

Superb. The luxury base (the "older" one sold by Cbubs) is still stellar. Good stuff.

I agree that the Luxury base is very good. Quite workable for me. The premium base is definitely a step up, though.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Yet another peachy keen shave. This Fill That Glass was sent to me by Marion the Barbarian. The scent has peach in it and, therefore, qualifies for my "peach" series of shaves, however, the scent smells like a mojito. Well done by Charky. I like this one. It put me in the mood to include mojitos as part of my summer cocktail repertoire.

  • Brush: Omega - 10048 28mm Boar
  • Razor: Tatara Masamune Open Comb
  • Blade: Feather Hi-Stainless (1)
  • Lather: Catie's Bubbles - Tonsorium - Soap
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Fougère Angelique - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Oleo & Co. - Facial Toner - Toner
  • Fragrance: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber - EdP

Swapped a Feather in for this morning's shave with the Masamune and got my best shave so far with this razor. Overall I've been very impressed with this razor. Super efficient and comfortable at the same time.

If I were buying one for myself, I'd probably opt for the closed comb top cap for a bit more comfort. But no real complaints with the OC top cap at all.

A great shave to start the day.

I'm a big fan of the guys at Tatara. I have the Muramasa and the Amakuni. I'm not surprised that you like the Masamune. The closed comb would be for me, as well.

snooting@wetshav.ing · 5 pts · 89d (3 replies)

Those both seem like great razors as well. I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay full price for something from Tatara, but I may snag one second hand if I can find a good deal.

Still, hard to justify when I have plenty of perfectly good razors already!

gcgallant@wetshav.ing · 3 pts · 88d (2 replies)

I agree. I bought both the Muramasa and the Amakuni on their release just because I liked their design. As someone who uses a straight 300 days out of the year, this was, perhaps, not the smartest economic decision.

It sure was a smart economic decision for the Republic of Portugal, who thanks you for service 🫡

Hah! Yes, it's always good to spend money as if you actually have it.

1 pass on the head, 2 on the face around a neatly trimmed circle beard. Good shave, only a few tiny blood spots on the face.

Long time no see, folks. My last SOTD post is over two weeks old. I must admit that work as well as some mental health issues got me into a slump, but I hope my next post won't take me nearly as long.

In the last weeks I mostly only trimmed my head with a close to zero gap trimmer and I hadn't shaved or trimmed my face in at least a month! So it was really nice to go back to my preferred wetshaving ritual, despite my technique having suffered greatly this year. Now I have tried everything out there to get my patchy beard to grow, but the stubborn cheek areas simply won't comply. For the sake of my own sanity and preference of a professional look, I think it's best if I focus on what I can grow and maintain nicely. I prefer the circle beard/full goatee short cropped, just kinda like longer stubble. However, I won't strive to get it absolutely perfect and straight anymore. That's usually the death sentence of it for me, so I will now just use the good tools I have to keep it in a neat shape without extra hassle.

Today's shave was very refreshing, I chose this lightly mentholated soap by AYLM as we currently have a streak of summer heat over here. The reason for the two different razors? I think the Cyber is a great head shaver, but it sucks for getting good lines on the beard. On the other hand, the Hawk is great for that but not as comfortable for head shaving. Together, both shine in their individual strengths. It took me longer than usual to shave today, but after not doing it for so long it's kinda normal. At least I could enjoy the fresh feeling and nice scent of Blu Tobacco a bit longer. Finished up with a balm I probably need to toss soon, it was a special edition for the 11th anniversary of spanish vendor YourShaving - and that was still during the days where I was on Reddit. It still has a faint aquatic, summery note to it and hasn't gotten greasy or sticky yet - but it's definitely not what it used to be. Still, glad that I was able to shave today.

In other news, after a long period of paralysis by analysis, I did my first full calisthenics workout today. It was challenging sometimes, but I felt so much better after it. We'll see how consistent I can stay with my work schedule and the ton of shifts I have to do.

The workouts won't fix your mental health but it can really help in my experience. I have a habit of shaving before going to the gym. Somehow makes me feel fresh and ready for it lol.

DaveWave94@wetshav.ing · 3 pts · 89d

Sounds like a good idea, definitely better than shaving after working out (shaky hands and legs) 😅
