It's almost like the tech companies are preying on places that have cheap land and residents with less political influence...

There is a shockingly high percentage of homeowners who sincerely believe that renters should have fewer rights. The most common seem to be that they shouldn't get to vote in local elections and that they shouldn't be allowed to park their cars on public streets.

renters are second class citizens in the USA, for sure.
not owning a home is considered a failure, like not going to college, or not being rich.
