The Dutch government wants to ban “kidfluencers,” children under the age of 16 who make commercial content for social media, such as unboxing videos and videos by family vloggers. Children being systematically used as a revenue model is effectively child labor and must be treated as such, Minister Thierry Aartsen of Work & Participation said in a letter to parliament, RTL Nieuws reports.

It always blew my mind how parents were allowed to make bucket loads of money by exploiting their children in social media advertising.

TBF, it isn’t unlike parents

It used to be less accessible and visible, I don't think a lot of people really thought how weird and disgusting it is to do this to children. Was the consensus that child actors in the 1980s were systematically exploited? At least from mainstream media archives you wouldn't think so.

Also ban the "influencers" that target kids, but aren't kid content.

A lot more important, in my opinion.
I'd go even further and say ban any advertisement targeting kids. Otherwise we'll just see advertisement disguised as kids content.

Can we just skip some steps and band online advertising?

Just advertising in general. I also don't want my city to be plastered with stuff I am supposed to need

A whitelist for, like, a sign over you shop or a business webpage would be needed, but yes. In most cases, it's pretty hard to justify advertising as a social good.

The conservatives will have a fit over this. "small government" and other brain diseases they have
Hapankaali@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 77d
The conservatives (some of them, at least) are the ones in government doing this.
Taalnazi@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 77d
Those that throw a fit aren't conservatives, but capitalist grifters.
Conservatives, as in Christian democrats, are pretty common in the Netherlands, if not historically the majority. They're generally chill and just want change, if any, to be step for step, very gradual.
Liberals and right-wing elitists though (I reject calling them "populists", as they only talk to fill the pockets of the rich), are unfortunately way too common. They should be diminished through education and lifting them up to see the wonders of socialism and communism.
One does not become liberal or an elitist through hard work and education; indeed, to the contrary! When you rely on exploiting the masses and telling them to be angry at other parts of the masses instead of you, then you are the problem.

The PVV has entered the chat...
...let's throw things at them until they go away.

Links lullen, rechts vullen, is what we often say about the PVV (and many other (para-)fascist groups).
They often talk about being there for the "ordinary citizen", but Wilders lived for a long time in an imperialist settler colony in Israel. Undoubtedly he gets a lot of financing from the antisemitic Netanyahu government.

And probably Russians lent a bit of "help" as well.
Also, your username is hilarious in the context of this discussion!

How else will the parents earn drug money?
