I've seen multiple videos of people who do end up falling inside the machinery. It's the steel plates on the landings that you should actually be wary about.
I went to a movie today and saw two different kids, from different families, wearing Pikachu shirts. And later, at the mall, I saw a kid with a Pikachu plushie. You would think there was a pokemon movie out
I went up an escalator with my ex girlfriend a few days ago, and when we came to the top, for some reason, I picked her up and carried her over that part. But then I started wondering, why did I do that? And she just said "ok you can put me down now."
Escalators should be outlawed. What fucking good do they do to begin with? They don't even speed up travel, they actually slow it down. People get mad at me for this stance because of disabled people. Well, some disabled people can't even use the escalator. Malls should make sure an elevator is readily available for those who can't walk. If I had it my way, there would be stairs alongside a ramp and an elevator. I don't really trust elevators either, but sometimes they're the only option.
Shoe strings would most likely break before any real harm was done, probably just make you fall on your face. Flip flops and sandals are a real danger, you can lose a toe or a chunk of your foot.
On a local emergency TV program someone got stuck with their back caught in the metal teeth at the bottom. They had to manually reverse the escalator to free him. Injuries are unlikely and rare but the chance is not zero.
It happened to me, the shoe strings didn't break but they got ripped out of the holes one by one. I don't know if I trashed the sneakers but I'll post them if I find them.

Was she your ex at the time or was it the reason for the breakup?

Haha no, we broke up months ago, but it's complicated I guess.

I didn’t see it there, but I’m pretty sure I’m thinking of the same Chinese woman slowly ground to nothing by exposed escalator machinery.
As an aside, I’ve watched far too many people die. This should not be relatable. The fuck, me from 10 years ago?
tlekiteki@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 53d
Nah I saw a Chinese guy just disappear through a panel that opened up in the floor.
As a youth, I wanted to understand the parameters of the world we live in. I'm glad I do.

Surr, you fall on your face, then it gets munched by the escalator!

So do what I do and don't go on escalators
