When they initially said they were using tiles I was like “wtf this is the space shuttle all over again”. The original design did not call for that, they thought the use of stainless steel (with water cooling?) would be enough IIRC.
This is the thing that really bothers me. So many kids claiming to be “trans”, when they are very clearly going through common teenage rebellion/finding themselves. It does a disservice to those who really do have gender dysmorphia. The conservative “anti-trans” crowd can point to this and say “see, they’re all just being weird”.
And sure, there are kids who really are that way. My old ass thinks they should wait until they’re actually adults to go messing about with their hormones. That shit is permanent and they’re still developing. They can live as another gender in the meantime, no reason to stop that. But at least make the body modification decision as an adult.
I think they’ve hit the point of diminishing returns and want to frame it as “we’d better stop before we all die”. That is, incremental improvement is all they’re getting from throwing exponentially increasing compute at these things.
I used to know that airport like the back of my hand. That was like 7 years ago though. Knew where all of the empty bathrooms and lounging areas were. I kind of miss it in a sick way.
This all presupposes that this “arms race” is going somewhere. Far as I can tell, trillions of dollars will be incinerated making a better word-guesser while claiming it will lead to some nebulous “AGI”.
IPAs are way easier to make and harder to fuck up. Other beers are much more mild on the palate so you can taste imperfections. If an IPA tastes like shit, just add more hops until you can’t tell.
My company’s password policy requires, among many other things, “no repeating characters”. Like what the Christ. How does all this bullshit make it more secure? I store my login in a password manager with far looser requirements, so fuck yo security
