Confirmation that Steam made a good call, right there.

mrfriki@lemmy.world · 141 pts · 84d (1 reply)

That's why gamers buy on Steam instead of Epic, Tim.

the16bitgamer@programming.dev · 27 pts · 84d

Wait you can buy games from Epic? I thought it was all give-a-ways

aaaa@piefed.world · 119 pts · 84d (2 replies)

He believes the requirement can lead to players boycotting games simply because they include AI.

Uh huh? And?

phoenixz@lemmy.ca · 34 pts · 84d

That is the point

artyom@piefed.social · 8 pts · 84d

Its not fair to the slop generators!

Epic CEO Irresponsible Piece of Shit Tim Sweeney Criticizes Steam's AI Disclosure Requirement, Calls It "Irresponsible"

FTFY

Janx@piefed.social · 50 pts · 84d (2 replies)

Amazing. That's pretty much the exact opposite definition of "irresponsible". It's almost like you think you're entitled to everyone's data and personal information, just like the techbros...

Dudewitbow@lemmy.zip · 15 pts · 84d (1 reply)

its irresponsible to devs. what tim Sweeney wants is that all devs simultaneously get tired of the shit and leave steam. Epic knows it will never win consumers over so its trying all of its powers to win a majority of devs over.

epic vs steam is ultimately a debate of dev vs consumer. steam is the weird option in the market, because consumer led monopolies are rare.

kewjo@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 84d

weird debate because most people will never buy anything off Epic store just due to how big a knob they are let alone being anti consumer. devs can move if they don't want sales i guess. imo epic is great to iron out bugs as a form of early access and taking Tim's money, before it gets in the hands of users.

atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone · 42 pts · 84d (5 replies)

he complains that if you use AI, people will boycott your product, but also

“You have to choose from either not using tools that can make you way more productive, and probably failing due to competition that does.”

the competition that would also be forced to disclose their AI usage and be boycotted?

Mika@piefed.ca · 7 pts · 83d (2 replies)

The problem I see is that there is no way to prove the AI was used for the codebase. So unless someone from the team leaks, yeah, you can make an unfair competition.

atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 83d

if your competition can lie, so can you

but if you spend so long making a game, you likely would not want to risk it being removed for breaking the rules

Clues are often left and can be seen during decompilation attempts, data-mining, etc.

qaz@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 83d (1 reply)

I think he means with competition that does use it and does not disclose

atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 83d

but you can also use it and not disclose it

It’s impressive Tim Sweeney has been eating his own foot for nearly 30 years ..

drdalek@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 30 pts · 84d

They know they cant compete so they are hoping pandering to the industry will help. He doesnt realize how little people care about Epic. Its a place to grab free games every week, and then never play any of them with.

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney

Aaaand moving on.

Jhex@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 84d

Tim Sweeney suffers from diarrhea of the mouth... I am tired of hearing his bullshit

TheGreenWizard@lemmy.zip · 22 pts · 83d (1 reply)

Can this guy just shut up already? We really need to stop posting articles every time this dipshit let's a fart loose. Every article is either "Tim hates Valve and its very obvious he feels insecure" or "Tim is defending AI as if there is a gun to his head" or both. Can't these CEO types just be satisfied at never needing to lift anything for the rest of their lives? They need to be loved and adored or admired. Its pathetic. (Also never forget Tim defended grok and its generating of CP)

MrMcGasion@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 83d

It would be nice for all of us who've known he's a dipshit for years, but there's always new people coming along that haven't realized yet.

I'd rather have to see more articles about some dumb thing he said, than to live in a world where I'm in an increasingly small club of people who know he's an idiot.

WoodScientist@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 84d

Rapist mentality.

JigglySackles@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 84d

Timmy is a degenerate money grubbing fuck. Almost a guarantee that anything he thinks is the opposite of what's good or right.

DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth · 14 pts · 84d

What a horrible little turd of a CEO.

phoenixz@lemmy.ca · 12 pts · 84d (1 reply)

According to Sweeney, forcing developers to reveal how they used AI in making their games is irresponsible and harmful to the industry. his wallet

FTFY

JigglySackles@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 84d

Timmy wants his two dollars!

Binturong@lemmy.ca · 11 pts · 84d

Yeah of course he said some bullshit, they're his direct competition lmao. Why are we cursed with having to see what this fuckwad corposcum has to say all the time?

kewjo@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 84d

every time Tim criticizes valve i wonder if he realizes he's pushing more customers away? the biggest pc gaming group loves what valve does and this dope thinks insulting their intelligence will sell people on epic store? if anything it just confirms Epic's policies are anti-consumer

dan1101@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 84d (5 replies)

It's sad to see what Tim Sweeney has become, he was a gaming pioneer.

joranm1@lemmy.zip · 16 pts · 84d (4 replies)

He was a cool programmer, but just like Carmack, he is not meant to manage a company.

As time goes by, I am also increasingly convinced that it's rather Cliff Bleszinski's game design that made Epic what it was.

Wfh@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 84d

CliffyB is the real MVP

maniacalmanicmania@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 84d

Laura Fryer's YouTube takes provide some interesting insider insight into that era.

Exec@pawb.social · 2 pts · 84d

I miss Jazz Jackrabbit

Duamerthrax@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 83d

Carmack seems fine for the most part. id's equivalent to Sweeny is probably Tim Willits.

TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com · 7 pts · 84d

What if all the game developers were A.I. ?

Then they wouldn't have feelings to worry about, eh ? Then Steam could do this and not care, eh ?

Treczoks@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 83d

It hurts bad and lazy developers. It helps all others. Just choose the right side.

okwhateverdude@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 84d (2 replies)

Is this just a case of him being contrarian thinking he will win over so many developers?

pivot_root@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 84d

It's just another case of him having a hate boner for Valve. Years ago, he asked Valve to do something via email and Valve ghosted him while doing the exact opposite.

His behavior and attitute towards Valve, in my opinion, is consistent with somebody who has hurt feelings and a grudge. There are actually legitimate things to criticize Valve over, but him having a go at the things that benefit consumers instead of devs just makes him look like a giant anti-consume douche.

chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 84d

He’s desperate for attention. He’ll say anything if it gets people talking about his company.

jtrek@startrek.website · 4 pts · 84d (1 reply)

Tim Sweeney should go away and never come back.

maniacalmanicmania@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 84d

I'm now imagining Tim in the roles of Smeagol and Gollum. Leave now and never come back!

ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world · 4 pts · 84d

Maybe Tim Sweeney has been replaced by AI

Auster@thebrainbin.org · 4 pts · 83d

wasn't anything an excuse for Sweeney to attack Valve and their flagship brand? And by extension, wouldn't such a news be like reporting the sun has dawned?

Tiral@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 84d

Yeah..... Even if true, I don't think I'd trust the person/competitor who's kicking their ass for credable info.

Grimy@lemmy.world · -9 pts · 84d

There isn't really a way to tell anymore and it's probably used broadly. Eventually, devs will simply hide it and people will go back to judging something on the enjoyment it procures them.
