Is this a statement of dentist solidarity? a wish for my coworker to return with more (or fewer) teeth than he set out with?

An alethiometer is a fictional device which appears in Philip Pullman’s fantasy series, His Dark Materials. The device bears a superficial resemblance to a compass, and is used to answer questions asked of it, albeit in a rather cryptic manner.

I used to dislike emoji reactions , but I realized they're a nice way to signal "I read your message but have nothing more to add"

"Going to lunch. Back by 1" gets 4 thumbs up emojis and a sandwich. Uses far less space than 5 lines of "okay"

It furthers my theory that a frighteningly small amount of communication actually accurately conveys one mind to another and something like 99% of received communication ends up being the recipient's projection of whatever they wanted it to mean.
