That's a lot of milk

ThePantser@sh.itjust.works · 24 pts · 50d (10 replies)

1.5gal is not that much. My 15 year old can drain a gallon in 3 days. This person said "kids" so its not that crazy to have that much. I buy 2 gallons a week.

They should just buy the cow

Hupf@feddit.org · 4 pts · 49d (1 reply)

But who's gonna milk it, kid? You?

threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 49d

"You bet I could! I'm not such a bad farmer myself! C'mon, we don't have to sit here and-"

LemmyFeed@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 50d

Why buy the cow if they're getting the milk for free?

whoisearth@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 50d

It's in America too. Think of all the pus in that milk lol

Bubs12@lemmy.cafe · 1 pts · 49d (1 reply)

The part that is weird is the 2 full half gallons. Why not just get a full gallon and save a few bucks.

Trainguyrom@reddthat.com · 3 pts · 49d

Could be the fridge isn't big enough to conveniently hold whole gallons. Or maybe they walk/bike to the grocery and the half gallons are more convenient to carry back from the store. Or maybe some member(s) of the household can't lift whole gallons of milk. Or maybe they're like my family which will drain a gallon in two days then go 2 weeks of barely touching the milk before suddenly devouring milk again. Or maybe 2 members of the house independently decided to pick up a fresh half gallon of milk on the way home on the same day and now they have a gallon of unopened milk

aeronmelon@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 50d (5 replies)

If you have kids, that can disappear very quickly.

mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 50d (4 replies)

I drank so much milk as a kid. it's fucking delicious. for whatever reasons, I don't drink it much as an adult

whoisearth@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 50d (2 replies)

I once told my exes family (who is Jewish, context is important as im caker), sometimes there is nothing more refreshing than a cold glass of milk on a hot summer day. The only one who got it was the other brother-in-law who was also cake.

threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 49d (1 reply)

Cake? Is this a religious sect I'm unaware of, or a slang description of buttocks?

whoisearth@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 49d

It's an Italian derived slur for Anglo-Saxon white people in Ontario at a minimum.

Cake/Caker

I used to do drink so much milk as a kid. I still do, but I used to, too.

It's crazy to think about how much milk Americans consume. Especially that's it's usually full cream. I think my milk consumption is measurable in cups per week.

mojofrododojo@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 50d (2 replies)

Especially that’s it’s usually full cream.

?

no it's not full cream. Cream, heavy cream, whipping cream - it's all the same - is ~36% milk fat. no one's drinking that.

whole milk is 3.5 percent milk fat. 2% is - you guessed it, 2% milk fat.

caurvo@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 50d (1 reply)

Yes, where I am from that is called full cream milk. As opposed to skim milk.

mojofrododojo@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 49d

they call whole milk full cream? how do they differentiate it from half and half and other cream, heavy cream whipping cream etc?

fascinating! where's that?

also, you have a perception that everyone is drinking loads of milk.... kids maybe but adults often have to be pressed to get enough to just maintain bones and teeth. my mom, for example, got her milk in her coffee or tea or not at fucking all lol.

The only time I drink milk is with chocolate chip cookies, and I only get that kinda treat a few times a year.

Magnum@infosec.pub · 8 pts · 49d

Fun fact, you can actually measure any amount in cups per week. Even twelve gazillion jugs of milk.

arrow74@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 50d

There's nothing quite as refreshing as a glass of cold milk after a long hot day working outside. I know it sounds crazy, but it's packed with basically everything your body expends through a day.

It basically prevents me from waking up with leg cramps. Electrolyte solutions do usually work, but not all the time. The milk always works

NikkiDimes@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 49d

I think mine is probably measured in cups per year. I wish I could keep milk stocked in my fridge, but it just goes bad.
