Moving into a role where I have an โœจ office โœจ - it's a warehouse office, so no glamourous view or anything, although I have demanded a heater. I want to decorate it, anyone got some fun suggestions?

A large cardboard Audrey the monster plant

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 49d (2 replies)

I love this idea, there's a whole section that would be perfect. Any suggestions as to where one might acquire this?

TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 49d

It's a warehouse. There will be cardboard boxes - this is a natural law. Box cutter and some duct tape and some bamboo and/or discarded piping for the stems and you can make one to the size you prefer. Teeth can be sushi fish.

I had in mind just blowing a picture with the photo copier

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 49d (1 reply)

Demand a split system for summer too.

HMU if you wanna come by and select some succulents to pot up.

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 32d

Haiiii!! Heater AND cooler have been acquired - I would love some succulents if this is still on offer, please!! I had to clear it with HACCP regs, but apparently being in my office makes it A-OK.

Hope you're having a kick ass night!

Persons wearing medical scrubs sniffing every 2 seconds on the tram. Yay educated hygiene....

PeelerSheila@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 50d (2 replies)

The one that got to me over the weekend was the number of staff from cafes in shopping centres leaving toilet cubicles still wearing an apron! Take it off before you go to the toilet FFS!

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 50d (1 reply)

Noooo way ๐Ÿคฎ

PeelerSheila@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 50d

I've seen it happen on many occasions at several different shopping centres: Northland, Highpoint, Airport West and Broadmeadows.

PeelerSheila@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 50d (3 replies)

I'm concerned about the infection control risk associated with people wearing medical scrubs outside of work. To me it seems unprofessional.

Eagle@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 50d

They've become a status symbol.

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 50d (1 reply)

Wearing clean scrubs on the way to work I can kinda understand, but on the way home? Or even out on lunch break? What if thereโ€™s bodily fluids on them, surely they be put into the hospital wash and not be take home?

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 50d

I thought scrubs is what you put on at work to protect patients?

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 50d (1 reply)

I have a runny nose most mornings in the cold without being ill.

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 49d

Disassembling a sump pump, cleaning the filter and reassem...

Fuck if they couldn't put humpty dumpty back together again I don't like my odds.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 50d (10 replies)

So for the past week, the grease trap in the dumpster room has backed up. Started slightly flood the dumpster room with old grease from the commercial property downstairs.

They reckon it hasn't been cleaned out properly for years, and the poor new lease holders (a cafe) weren't even aware of it as it wasn't mentioned on their lease. They apologised anyway, and this morning have gotten a company to clean it.

I don't think I've ever smelled anything so fucking rancid. Fucking hell it's foul af. Like bin juice but rotten.

What a lovely way to wake up.

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 50d (1 reply)

I'm incredibly sad that I know that exact smell.

Fuck you hospitality lol

StudChud@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 49d

Loool so fkn gross be glad you don't work in that industry anymore haha

Catfish@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 50d (3 replies)

Eeew. Pity the poor bastard doing the clean.

SaneMartigan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 50d (1 reply)

You stop smelling it. I worked in what was essentially a fancy rendering plant while at uni.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 50d

Boyo did a short run at a fish based fertiliser plant. They stripped to jocks on the porch and threw out their pants every week. Glad I wasn't around for that!!

StudChud@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 49d

Same! I can't imagine how many body wash products they have to use to just smell normal ๐Ÿ˜ญ

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 50d (1 reply)

This sounds awful!

StudChud@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 49d

They were meant to start at 7am, but started at 6.45am dammit

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 49d (1 reply)

I recently had a liquid waste truck come to take away a vat that I nicknamed my witches brew - it was a 700L vat made up of expired wine making additives. I nearly vomited several times making up the vat (over the course of 1 day - it initially sounded fun but I realised very quickly how awful it would be, like extremely expired kombucha), but when that truck showed up and opened it's valves to start pumping.... oh my god, I will never forget it. It got into every space in the building for days. The gentleman operating the truck was so lovely, I felt so awful that I literally RAN away dry retching. Vomited half way down the warehouse.

StudChud@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 49d

Omg looooool! I'm sure he's seen people do worse hahaha!

It's fucking rank! I came home today after my retail course thing and it's all cleaned up and gone thank fuck ๐Ÿ˜‚ I never want that stank anywhere near my notrils ever again ๐Ÿ’€

Returning after a trip to cairns. Iโ€ฆ am thinking of moving somewhere warmer.

Canโ€™t really handle Melb winters.

SpinMeAround@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 49d

I love Cairns... but every time I think about moving somewhere warmer, I remember the humidity and rethink the idea.

PeelerSheila@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 49d (1 reply)

Everyone I work with is saying the same thing. I don't know what's wrong with me, I love the cold! Every summer in Melbourne I think, "dammit I need to move somewhere colder" ๐Ÿ˜†

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 49d

I'd rather cold than humid and flies.

Taleya@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 50d (3 replies)

up there for the marathon? I know a certain gentleman who ate tremendous shit 50m from the finish line

themaninblack@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 50d (2 replies)

lol no we were surprised by that one. Hope the gentleman is alright but Iโ€™d love to have seen it

Taleya@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 49d (1 reply)

Probably not, he broke his face, two cervical vertebrae and his hand

themaninblack@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 49d

Great Caesarโ€™s ghost I hope he is doing ok. How unfortunate

Quite the gherked up day with one kid still at home and the girlfriend out at appointments. My manager asked if I could try working from home days like this to still get things done instead of taking leave. Okay, a lot of time with a clamp on the TAB key but at least I didn't have to take a day off I guess

SituationCake@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 50d

Terrible nights sleep. Kept waking up, because I couldnโ€™t get comfortable. In the bed I sleep in every night? it makes no sense. Grumpy day ahead.

useless_modern_god@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 50d

I couldnโ€™t get tix last month for the Odyssey at the museum IMAX. (There were tens of thousands of people in the queue) so will be seeing it at the Chadstone IMAX this weekend.

Half way through the Le Carre biography.

I am totally shocked John/David lacked self confidence and allowed his frenemy James to make him feel bad about his own life, as if he was a do nothing who was too frightened to live.

Why do people think that "quiet" lives , ie lives with no drama, are not living.

How does this insightful ex spy who specialised in profiling and interviewing end up believing a frenemy that being a sexist liar and betrayer is living and anything and everything else is not living and weak

Luckily the influence didn't greatly interfere with his work discipline.
