Al Bundy was never considered fat but lazy and only out of shape compared to his footballer days. It's often a plot point that he has to go hungry because Peg refuses to cook for him.

Man went to work every day to provide for his family. Let the man stick his hand in his pants and have a beer when he comes home in peace ffs.

The boomer generation of the imperial core were the luckiest mfs in world history, and they don’t even know it. They don’t know that their moment was a historical fluke that will almost definitely never recur.

They could have invested and voted to ensure prosperity continued at least for a bit longer.

But no they picked Reagan. Who slashed all wealth taxes and tore the solar panels off the white house.

We could have followed Norway's example and established a sovereign wealth fund, but no those profits must flow.

They picked Reagan after of Carter for the same reasons they voted in Nixon after LBJ did the civil rights act or voted in Trump after Obama got the presidency -- too much progressive change for a settler colonial state.

In the Simpsons episode “King Size Homer,” Homer decides to gain enough weight to be considered medically disabled (300 lbs) so he can work from home.

Me after reading this.

BoosBeau@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 58d

That's why I never learned to read.

folaht@lemmy.ml · 21 pts · 59d

He wasn't considered fat until the later seasons.

But the poor thing is absolutely true.

How did the "Friends" afford two city flats?

can@sh.itjust.works · 27 pts · 59d (7 replies)

The Gellar's grandmother had rent control and Monica took it over.

Chandler seemingly made good money.

anarchy79@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 59d (2 replies)

Then riddle me this- how did they all just hang out in a coffee shop at all times of the day if they had jobs?

IT'S A HOAX!

Uruanna@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 58d

The trick is you only see them once a week, for a few months in the year.

And there's the one time where someone asks them what they're doing in a coffee shop at this time, they all check their watch, and scramble to work.

WHY DO WE ONLY EVER SEE THREE WALLS?

nomecks@lemmy.wtf · 4 pts · 59d (3 replies)

Most of them had good jobs. Only Phoebe and Joey were questionable, but I'm assuming Joey had acting money squirreled away

white_nrdy@programming.dev · 4 pts · 59d (2 replies)

Rachel only had money like half way through the show. For the first few seasons she was a waitress

can@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 59d

There was a whole episode about the conflict of three of them making less money.

zalgotext@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 58d

And she shares a rent-controlled apartment with a roommate (who was probably good-natured enough to help her cover rent on months she came up short).

EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml · -2 pts · 58d

Fuck Friends, the whole white bread premise and all privileged fans and setup.

That was a shit ass show, pop-culture has always sucked. Fuxking selfish lemmings are why we’re here today.

Eat paste whitey.

Even back then it was stretching the bounds of believability that a shoe salesman could afford that house in that neighborhood with a stay at home mom and two teenagers to feed

Entertainmeonly@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 8 pts · 59d

Feed? That house almost never had food in it.

Weydemeyer@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 58d

I used to work at a department store in the late 90s, and there were employees there who worked full time and either owned a very modest house or at least a decent apartment and lived somewhat comfortably.

(So no, maybe not THAT specific house but the point stands, try and make even a livable wage selling shoes in 2026)

He didn’t have to kill all those people though.

i was always stumped abt the house layout based on that front shot.

YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 58d

I never put much thought into it until just now. Thanks for that.

stringere@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 57d

And he did that on a shoe salesman salary.
