Every captain is just as good as his team - it is not his job to know everything right but to set the stage to let his people work. Knowing things would help though.
I really want 3-7 episodes of a star trek show where the captain is equally clueless and fumbles everything in such a way that (with the crew's help) it all works out positively.
At least one episode is a courtroom drama, of course.
