Final EDIT Mk2: To see this year's stats for our instance on canvas, click here (20 slrpnk users participated, collectively placing a whopping 9188 pixels!!, that's 3x more than our previous record, and made us the 9th most active fediverse instance on canvas this year). You can also see every pixel placed by a slrpnk user on this image here.
Final EDIT: 48 hours later, the event has come to a close. Massive thanks to everyone who participated! We really hit it out of the park this year with some fantastic pieces of art, and this is by far the largest amount we've drawn in our history of Canvas events.
To see the final state of the canvas without any template to get in the way, click here.
To see a complete timelapse of the event, click here.
Big thanks to the Furry community this year, who graciously let us be their neighbors, and who contributed towards our works so much in mutual aid! You all rock! ^^
And be sure to leave a comment of appreciation here to the awesome folk who created and hosted the event, it'd mean a lot to them :)
I hope you all had fun! Here's looking forward to next year's Canvas! :D
::: spoiler Original Post (spoiler to save space) EDIT 3: The first 24 hour time-lapse of the Canvas Event is now available to watch! Check it out here :)
EDIT 2: Looks like we've finished our goals already! If anyone has any other templates they want to add (I recommend Pixelorama for making them), I can pop em anywhere on the canvas as long as you're sure they'll fit somewhere. You can also create your own 'team' here to submit templates yourself, which everyone here will also be able to see (use the gear icon at the top right to create the team, then log in with it with the button next to it).
EDIT: Additional art to draw was added since we're blazing through them!
Welcome everyone! the 2026 Canvas Event is now live, which means it's time for us to gather together to make our mark on it!
>> Click here to go to the Canvas Page with the template already loaded! <<
Be sure that your template's opacity is set to 50% so you can see what pixels still need to be placed. you can adjust the template opacity by clicking the settings button below your username at the top right:

For those unfamiliar with what the Canvas event is, refer to our previous planning thread here. But short version is: You can place 1 pixel every 30 seconds. You can also build up to 6 pixels to put down all at once just by waiting. !canvas@toast.ooo is the main Canvas community, where users can post and talk.
How do I join? - At the login on Canvas, use your existing Lemmy username (in my case, it would be ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net), which will prompt the website to send you a message to your Lemmy inbox with a code. Use that code along with your Lemmy username to log into the Canvas site so you can begin placing pixels.
What will we be drawing on the Canvas? - We're going attempt to draw two three different images, one of a stylized SLRPNK logo:

This lovely image submitted by Terradragon:

An idea submitted by Vegafjord: the Indigenous peoples of the Americas' flag for North America/Earth, which they refer to as Turtle Island.

And lastly, a .net to go after our slrpnk logo, so people know it's a website (which I forgot to put into the original submission). I realized I could add it as its own seperate template next to our existing one, so no possibility of it messing up the positioning :)
EDIT: I edited this and changed the positioning on the template so it's taking up less room on the canvas, and so it ensures that it stays connected to the main logo. Sorry for the extra work!

Where will we be drawing them on the Canvas? - The Furry artwork team, part of which is comprised of the Pawb.social lemmy instance, has agreed to let us create our artworks near them. You can see where we ours is planned to be in relation to theirs on this preview template map (look toward the bottom left corner): https://chocolatecakecodes.goip.de/cotemplate/ui/template/20260520-Canvas26_main
Their group has been incredibly helpful and kind, and were absolutely essential to helping us solidify our claim, as well as provide essential advice on how to use Canvas. If you have any spare pixels, consider helping out their projects in the bottom left corner as well in mutual aid. As far as I'm concerned, they've been absolute legends. :)
How do we begin drawing the artwork? - It'll be best to begin with the outlines of each artwork, as that will help both stake our claim, and help us ensure the overall dimensions are right before we begin filling it in with the details.
I've created a set of instructions on what order to create each artwork in, progressing in 20% increments. Click each one below to expand it:

Looking around the canvas, slrpnk seems really well developed at the quarter-mark. Good job, gang!

Thank you so much for the people who made the turtle. Very cute. π’β€οΈ
reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net · 7 pts · 24d
Maybe we could do like a river running under the whole thing
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 10 pts · 24d
That sounds cool to me!
I love the Tree-turtle you put in btw, I was hoping someone would do a turtle ^^
EDIT: Maybe the blue line in the LGBTQ+ flag could spill out as a waterfall down the black angled piece as the source of the river?
reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 24d
Ohh yes I like that!
JustJack23@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
Can you add it to the template i can help as well
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
Unfortunately I'm not quite sure how to download a pixel-accurate copy of the current canvas, so I don't think I'd be able to accurately weave it around all the curves and current artwork for a template, so free handing live it is likely the only way to put it in.
JustJack23@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 24d
I think you can do it via the share feature. I am unfortunately very bad with pixel art XD
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 8 pts · 24d
Oh! good find! That does work ^^
What do you all think of something like this?
JustJack23@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 24d

The canvas is way more addictive than I anticipated. Really fun stuff. Good work everyone <3
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 7 pts · 23d
With an hour and half until the event ends, I mocked up this idea to fill in the area around our sun flower with more sunset sky.
I think it'd look pretty rad, if anyone wants to join in to change it :)
reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 23d
That looks so good!
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 23d
And we got it in in time, with a big help from our furry allies :)
foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 22d
I just woke up and checked the canvas, continuing the sunset behind the flower looks SO GOOD <3 <3 y'all did an amazing job
terradragon@slrpnk.net · 7 pts · 24d
Since we still have a day, wouldn't it be cool if we could make the sun in our first template glow or twinkle? We can make the sun rays move one pixel outwards then inwards again, then outwards again, and so on. It'll look good in the time lapse. Just a thought. Like an animation loop.
Chaf@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 24d
That sounds awesome! All rays at once? Or one after the other?
terradragon@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 24d
I'm not sure actually. Don't know how to make that animation in some software to see how it'll look. I'll research about it and report back here. Just wanted to share the idea before getting into it

I let them know you're helping out in their Matrix chat, and they appreciate the help! ^^
(Here's their Matrix chat, if anyone wants to chill with em while pixelatin', or help out defending some parts that keep getting vandalized)
Also @JustJack23@slrpnk.net
foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 24d
I made this teeny tiny little flower and grass pattern so we can fill in some of the white space, could someone add it to the template for me? I'm working on a more complex one too but I am no artist XD
foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 23d
Signing off for the night, if anyone has time to fill in the rest of the yellow around the "I'm Old" area I'd be grateful but I just can't stay up that late. Cheers everyone can't wait to see it completed!!
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
Though it wouldn't seem it, that's a little bit too big to fit in most of the gaps available now, is it okay if I cut down one side of it?
Is there a particular spot you'd like me to place it? :)
foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 24d
Oh - yes trim as needed! I figured we could just sort of scoot some little flowers in wherever they'll fit rather than it being a specific shape. One of the furries suggested we could make tileable gardens to put around the map but I'm not quite that ambitious yet hehe
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 24d
Okay, if you refresh the Canvas page the template should show up above our turtle island flag (but if you'd like it somewhere else instead, just let me know)
foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 23d
good morning (where I am) - it's a perfect spot and thanks to everyone who's expanded it!! I'm adding a little sunset around the turtle and trees now
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 23d
It's awesome to see it all filled out now, and how someone put one sus flower in amongst it :p
I absolutely adore the sunset, contrasts so nicely with everything and just looks super cool! Well done both of you! ^^
@reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net
foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 23d
Hehehe the sus flower made me laugh out loud when I saw it XD
I've finally convinced my partner to make a slrpnk.net account because they saw me happily filling in squares of sunset and wanted to participate. Never mind that I've extolled the virtues of slrpnk.net in general for months XDD
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 23d
Lol, the sunsets are what really draw in the crowds π
I hope they enjoy their time here! ^^
reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 23d
Which sus flower, you donβt mean my solar panel do you?! I agree it looks so nice with the sunset! I thought it was looking blank over there and was hoping someone would do something:) Thank you @foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net!!
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 23d
There's a single flower in the flower patch that's actually
::: spoiler spoiler an among us astronaut trying to blend in :p :::
The solar panel/heat lamp combo in the tree had me laughing the first time I noticed it π
reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 23d
Iβm trying to help with the sunset but I think your artistic intuitions are better so please modify my tiles as you see fit:)
foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 23d
No no your additions to the sunset look amazing!! I just had a look and it's so pretty
reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 25d
Oops I didnβt read the whole post when I placed my first one and put one pixel of the lettering :(
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 25d
No worries! I made those 20% guides without knowing that the built-in template feature with opacity was even a thing, so I figured that'd help people figure out how to assemble it without getting overwhelmed. I was even going to put in the exact coordinates of the first pixel that we'd start building it from.
Then one of the furries told me about the template thing, which pretty much invalidated the need for those step-by-step guides π
Makes it a lot easier than I was thinking it'd be :p
reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 24d
I kind of like it emerging in a certain order for timelapse purposes though! Happy accidents
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 24d
True! that would be pretty neat to see :)
NightFantom@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 25d
The link shows both templates overlapping, is that intended?
Edit: it's fixed, thanks!
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 7 pts · 25d
Yeah it's bit finicky to move them with X/Y coordinates, so it took me a few tries to get it right. A different group was muscling into our original spot, so the Furries suggested we move over to this new spot. (and I just want to mention how invaluable their help and advice has been, they're even pulling people away from their projects to help us build up our claim. Absolutely amazing folk).
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 7 pts · 25d
And thank you for joining in and helping tonight, Fantom! ^^
I didn't realize how critical this early phase was in establishing ourselves, but with your help and the help of the furry communities, I think we'll make it into the morning.
NightFantom@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 25d
No worries, and it's morning for me, Belgium represent! I just happened to open my phone at the right time and thought, why not? Why shouldn't I solarpunk it up? π
Also I was thinking whether we should add a .net anywhere? Or the full word solarpunk?
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 25d
Hmm, we could try adding a .net outside the logo after the PNK, just as letters.
I'm a bit hesitant to add it the template file in fear that the new size might mess up the positioning of the overlay, but we could try to add it unofficially anyway and see what happens :)
And good morning! π
foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 24d
This is so dumb but how the hell do I zoom in? If I try to pinch/spread my mousepad, it zooms the page so I can't see the tools, and if I ctrl-plus then it zooms the canvas and tools equally. It's driving me nuts!!
EDIT: may I propose we add some vegetables and plants to fill in some space around our designs?
NightFantom@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
On mobile (waterfox) two finger pinch just works for me, what are you using?
foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
I'm on Firefox. I've figured out I can do the pinch and then scoot around a little bit with the arrow keys to find the color picker again so that's working out for now XD
NightFantom@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
I think in the settings, otherwise in the url there's a zoom=1 setting, maybe you can manually edit that?
Ategon@programming.dev · 3 pts · 24d
hit the + key without hitting ctrl
foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
oh my god yeah this is the one!!! Thank you so much
Chaf@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 24d
I like the idea with the plants! But I'm not sure if I'm capable of coming up with a template
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 0 pts · 24d
At least for me on Firefox desktop, scrolling with the scroll wheel zooms in and out of the canvas. Maybe a two finger scroll (if your trackpad supports it) would work?
I like the veggies and plants idea! ^^
Chaf@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 24d
Almost missed it. I'm doing my part! :D
Chaf@slrpnk.net · 9 pts · 24d
Looking quite good for now. Let's see where those flags are going π€¨
benjirenji@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 24d
The German "Keine Angst" flag is a reference to an antifa song with the same name that was published this year.
Chaf@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 24d
Oh, I know, I was more hinting at the probably austrian flag that's forming next to it. "Keine Angst" is a nice song :)
NightFantom@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 24d
Going nicely
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 24d
Super nice! I didn't think we'd make so much progress only a few hours in :D
NightFantom@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 24d
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 24d
I'm signing off for tonight. Massively grateful to everyone who joined in and kept the space from being taken. The progress you've all made is truly impressive.
NightFantom@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 24d
I thought you were sleeping, I see you adding art π
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 24d
It's addictive π΅βπ«
But I also wanted to get those extra templates in while there's still white space, otherwise I figured by the time I woke up it'd be too late.
NightFantom@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 24d
At this rate you'll be bored tomorrow! Good night π
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 8 pts · 24d
I didn't think turnout would be this good π
And since I was having trouble falling asleep, I decided instead to make more templates since we're getting pretty close to finishing the first two so early.
benjirenji@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 24d
When I came to help out all the SLRPNK projects were perfect, so I started "humanity's flag" at 22, 245. Just need some help with the purple now.
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 24d
Do you have a link to where the flag originates from? I tried searching humanity's flag but nothing purple showed up.
benjirenji@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 23d
I found it a couple of months ago on Reddit's r/solarpunk
I realized while making it that it probably is a relatively unknown design, cause I couldn't find a template for it.
I tried to do it from memory. Looks like I was slightly off: https://www.reddit.com/r/solarpunk/comments/1te06bw/if_were_doing_flags/
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 23d
Ooo, that is a very pleasing flag, and I'm a big fan of Sagan. Thanks for sharing it with us! :)
benjirenji@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 23d
Right? Thanks. I've started "correcting" it. I like the darker purple of the original and I imagine humanity gaining the perspective of an astronaut looking down on the blue marble.. realizing it's so small and fragile. I think the flag represents it really well.
NightFantom@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 25d
It also looks another group is making a square right over where the slrpnk logo would come
Edit: also fixed, probably both due to moving just as I clicked? Thanks!
foxymochakitten@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 22d
Good work everyone!! I think we made something amazing and spread joy to the other instances <3 <3 hopefully some of them saw our work and want to come hang out with us too! I'm gonna be subscribing to pawb.social now since the furries were so fantastic c:
(side note: now I really want to learn how to do pixel art so I can design something cool for next year... I don't need a new hobby. I don't need a new hobby. I don;t need a new hobby--)
terradragon@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 24d
Unfortunately, I'm getting an error when trying to load the template. Maybe it's a compatibility thing with my browser. Thanks for making the 20% increment templates. I'm using those now lol
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 24d
I think it needs WebGL enabled to work, which LibreWolf keeps off by default (if that's what you're usin').
I was able to selectively enable it in Librewolf by clicking the little sliders icon to the left of your address bar (sorta within it, squeezed between the shield icon and the bar). If that isn't an option, you may need to enable WebGL in the browser's settings window first.
And hey! Glad to have you with us! :D
terradragon@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 24d
I'll try that fix. And am happy to be here :D
NightFantom@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 24d
Also I think you get a pixel every 30s and the 60s is just a UI bug, when it counts down from 60 to 30 you get another pixel and it jumps up to 90, I guess they're adding 30 to the countdown display twice by accident
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
Good catch! I'll remove that bit from the OP.
Chaf@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 24d
I might be going crazy - is the colour picker getting the colour from the template or the actual value? If it's from the template, then we might be slightly off colour with the flag of the indigenous peoples of the americas... Or I'm totally missing something.
It's also kind of annoying, that the templates can be overlapping. Is there a way to get separate templates? (I don't mean our templates)
reallykindasorta@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 24d
I think the red in the flag is slightly different than the template but maybe more accurate to the flag?
Chaf@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
Yep.
I also just found out, that it depends on the settings - the "template style" source and one-to-one look differently to me, and I don't know which one is supposed to do what
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
The template color is oddly lighter/faded compared to the colors I picked out when drawing it. I based it on the flag design at the very bottom of the article Vegafjord linked, which matches the colors y'all ended up going with really well :)
terradragon@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
Have you lowered the transparency of the template? Maybe that could help.
Chaf@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
Yes, same effect. I'll just ignore it for now :D As long as everyone else says it's looking nice I'm fine with it. Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something
Tiresia@slrpnk.net · 1 pts · 24d
I think Ategon, a mod and developer of the event, is engaging in bot activity.
The pattern located around Pixel (413,381) (some orange guy with a teal tongue and big eyes) is being created by a bunch of new accounts that were created today in the toast.ooo instance that have made zero comments, including:
The only account older than 36 hours I can see having contributed to this pattern is Ategon's account, who has placed a bunch of pixels. Since Ategon is a mod and developer of Canvas, I don't see a reasonable avenue other than stating this suspicion publicly.
ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 24d
It's possible that Ategon convinced a group of friends to help out, or as Chaf reasons, could just be lurkers participating. They also explicitly don't allow botting in the rules, so I'd be very surprised if they decided to take exception to their own rule.
Chaf@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 24d
You do realize that events especially like this one get a lot of lurkers to create accounts? That doesn't immediately mean that someone is botting
