Your flock post reminder that they aren't just license plate readers. They capture Bluetooth and wifi MACs, NFC IDs, and cellphone IMEIs, scan for wifi ssids (exactly like a WiFi Pineapple, to further fingerprint a device) from every device within range. They also do facial recognition of everyone within view of the lens. All that information is sent to flock for sale to any government agency,

fuck flock

cities are unsure whether they have the legal right to remove the cameras themselves and are not sure whether they can disable their recording operations.

Just cut their connection to the grid. The power grid is not Flocks property so they cant complain if you just stop giving them free energy.

Probably solar powered :(

How do cities not know if they have the legal right to remove property placed on their property without consent?

Abyssian@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 29d

But Flock is a large company and all large companies get free energy.

Aren't Flock cameras solar powered? Wasn't that part of their marketing schtick that you could put them anywhere without needing to run infrastructure?

Ah it does actually look like there is a solar panel there above the cameras. Probably not all models but still a big factor yeah.

Easy enough to paint over.

Sounds like another job for the trash bags then

I should put on a reflective vest (and a mask to protect me from wildfire smoke, of course) and go around doing this to Flock cameras in my area.

Leave any electronic devices at home!

Yep! Remember the fcc clause, every digital device needs to accept interference even if it goes against the consumers desired effects

ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 10 pts · 28d

All any town/city that bans Flock (when then Flock fails to comply) would need to do is put out an open hit on their cameras. That's it, just greenlight it, "We are officially not charging people for damaging Flock property, have fun." Cameras will be gone overnight.

Flock doesn't want them out as their next step is replace the governing body of what ever municipality objects to them. Then another midnight NDA sweetheart deal and their back on and spying...

Alexstarfire@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 28d

I don't give a fuck if they object.

Why aren’t we just covering their solar panels? The device can still do shady shit without a camera, but without power it’s dead in the water.

Cover both!
