"Ah fuck, it's just 14 copies of the Directors Cut of Gigli..."

recentSlinky@lemmy.ca · 9 pts · 27d

Score!

adarza@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 27d (2 replies)

i'd watch that, actually. i didn't think that film was nearly as bad as all the hype and media made it out to be.

Gobble, gobble?

farting_gorilla@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 27d

lime@feddit.nu · 24 pts · 27d (2 replies)

they should have put a dvd rewinder in

lyralycan@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 27d (1 reply)

You guys don't use your fingers? Just poke the hole and spin the disc a few times, works wonders

lime@feddit.nu · 5 pts · 27d

the dual-layer ones are tricky though...

nullspace@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 27d

For an authentic Blockbuster experience they gotta have 50 copies of Dunston Checks In.

snooggums@piefed.world · 9 pts · 27d

How much are the late fees?

SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 7 pts · 27d (2 replies)

That can't be good for dvds

hitstun@feddit.online · 7 pts · 27d (1 reply)

Oh dang, good point. DVDs don't like temperature changes. It'd have to be built like a mini-fridge.

SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 27d

The temp fluctuations, the humidity, the UV, the different gasses and chemicals that charge often outdoors. Also any bugs or mold.

chortle_tortle@mander.xyz · 6 pts · 27d (1 reply)

I wonder what the stats are on people that have the tech to play a DVD.

Cethin@lemmy.zip · 10 pts · 27d

Probably reasonably high still. Consoles still play them, I assume, for now. Also, a lot of people will still have old ones lying around. I do agree the number is probably dropping though, and will go even faster with the next generation of consoles. If you want, you can still find them in thrift stores easily, so anyone who wants one has easy access, but most people can't be bothered anymore.

And somewhere Hollywood execs are frothing at the mouth trying to convince us physical media is old and outdated

catboy_slim@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 27d

I would straight-up support them ceasing the production of physical media if they were distributing digital media as DRM free, but unfortunately, that's antithetical to their goals.

hitstun@feddit.online · 4 pts · 27d

Hooray for physical media! There are enough super common DVDs out there to keep these stocked for a while.

Edit: @negativenull@piefed.world has a great point. DVDs don't take temperature changes well. Maybe movies are better served digitally in this case. What if we made an Internet in a Box or Khan Academy on a Raspberry Pi with added movies that we, um, have permission to distribute over Wi-Fi.

The one in Cincinnati stocks nothing but Canonball Run II

lobut@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 27d

"Blockbuster Video! wow what a difference!"

Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip · 3 pts · 27d

Oh shit, thats so fuckin cool! ☺️

terranoid@lemmy.cafe · 3 pts · 27d

For pride month someone should fill it with Tyler Perry's Madea series

TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com · 3 pts · 27d (1 reply)

I have thought of something like that for the Amazon/UPS/USPS/FedEx/DHL/et. al. drivers I see over and over again. Like let them borrow and return books and dvds.

I see them so frequently that I feel like I should be offering bodega services to these people.

catboy_slim@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 27d

That's what Netflix was originally.

theblurstoftimes@leminal.space · 2 pts · 27d

They had one in my neighborhood and of course some crack head hood rat stole the whole post from the guys lawn.

Don't most public libraries have DVDs/BRs/CDs/LPs you can borrow? Or is it just in poor countries where we still use old computers?

Flying_Dutch_Rudder@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 27d

They also offer books but people still build little libraries.
