Oh jeez that makes sense. It's late and after reading the other reply that it was to stop people from stealing them I was thinking to myself I'm sure people could figure out they had to unscrew it the other direction. Thanks for explaining like I'm 5.
Why not, tough? It probably just wouldn't do anything.
::: spoiler Though technically...
It could be built to cause a short circuit, that would be beyond stupid and a breaker should prevent any serious damage.
:::
In terms of being a cup, a lightbulb seems like it would be one of the worst objects to choose. So why do I also think it'd be satisfying to take a little swig from these?
These were common in the 80's, perhaps nearly 90's. I remember the ads for them on TV and tried them only a couple of times. They were advertised more fancy than they actually were.
Used to use them for a rudimentary weed vape. Heat source was half a Clementine Peel filled with olive oil with the center pith as the wick. No, Im not joking lol. Was actually extremely efficient

Alright I would totally screw these into a socket and plug it in. In the backyard obviously, but still, I would not be able to resist!

i hope they're not E26 mount or any other light bulb standard, nor counterclockwise E26, since those work in hotel rooms

Why are hotel rooms backwards?
expatriado@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 22d
looks like several decades ago stealing the bulbs was a thing, so they were designed so if you stole them would be useless at home

To prevent people from stealing them. I'm pretty sure most places just have integrated LED fixtures nowadays.

Would we hear about it in current events?
festnt@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 22d
i thought that's what you're supposed to do to heat it up before drinking

What a bright idea

Those look so throwable. Just a lil' alcohol and a napkin; so set to fight fascim after a light refreshment.
_stranger_@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 23d
A screwdriver isn't that flammable. You're better off with real lightbulbs that shatter, everclear, and zero OJ.
snoons@lemmy.ca · 9 pts · 23d
Oh, ofc. I meant to drink the OJ then restructure global economic systems.

Just use gas and some motor oil in a bottle like a normal person.

I feel like they're a step above the conical water cooler cups you can't set down. These at least appear to have a resealable top.
BodePlotHole@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 23d
Reminds me of the old Orangina bottles

In Germany and France at least, they are still available. They taste better now than a few years back because now it tastes more like orange again.

Thats also what trumps mouth is called.

Absolutely - just no lightbulb!

Orangussy as requested

Watered down, carbonated orange juice. It's actually quite good.

This gives me strong Belter drinking bulb vibes.

And here I thought smoking meth out of a light bulb was the worst use I'd ever seen of one.
