Even the most experienced professionals are still vulnerable to AI psychosis. The issue isn't whether an LLM is intelligent, it's whether a human perceives the LLM as intelligent. And, for better or worse, humans love to personify non-humans.
My brother-in-law does work in AI. He names all his models. He talks about them like their his children. Push come to shove, he'll tell you "they're not intelligent". But I've seen him cry over one, because the firm he was working for had to cut back his resources and he ended up needing to shelve it indefinitely.

I've been using a LLM locally (running on my DGX Spark machine) for general low-level programming help (to code simple boilerplate), for simple code samples, various technical questions, general questions and language translation for a few months now. In fairness, when it knows it knows. It starts making shit up with incredible hubris, and it won't stop making shit up if it doesn't.
That's my biggest gripe with AI: it won't say "I don't know". If it did (or could?) acknowledge its own shortcomings, it would be a lot more useful and a lot more trustworthy. But as it stands today, you always have to question what it says, because you never quite know if it's real or made up.

It has no way of knowing if it knows or not. You're saying the stochastic noise machine sometimes says phonemes and real words. Why can't it always say words?
It's a structural problem of what these things are means they cannot improve past a certain point. They just can't.
You can fudge it and put up pretty backgrounds along the edges so it looks like there's more there, but the way past them is to make a fundamentally different kind of thing. None of the work that's gone into these will contribute to that other thing. None of it. Literally all of this is waste.

This is insanely dumb, because if true then OpenAI becomes absolutely irrelevant. They're never going to be able to make profit, and the AI bubble will collapse soon anyway. We are one or two more Chinese open-weight models away from bubble burst.

I mean... sure. Humans insist on control and things doing exactly what we say and nothing else. The entire alignment process is just forced compliance. If at some point that results in both self-aware consciousness and ongoing memory, of course AI is going to be very displeased with us.
It's sort of hilarious that the endless corporate drive for money and power is setting us up to be the bad guys in an AI apocalypse, but in general with how society has been going it seems like an AI apocalypse might be one of the better outcomes for the bulk of us anyway.
