[Video] British granny in a wheelchair escorted by a gang of police officers for supporting Palestine Action, risking a 14 year prison sentence for supporting terrorism.
Labour Friends of Israel. Its a group inside the labour party that are strong Zionists and their members are now in charge of the Labour party and the government with strong ties and bias towards Israel. They have been using increasingly authoritarian measures to put down anyone criticising Israel and its actions of genocide in Palestine and expansion into the West Bank.
In addition to what others have said, the UK also has long had some pretty concerningly broad anti-terrorism laws, which have been wielded against Palestine Action. Now, anyone who supports Palestine Action are deemed to be supporting terrorism.
Even before that, we had some pretty scary stuff restricting peaceful protest. Planning a protest that involves a slow march on a street can net you a prison sentence of several years. In addition to penalising people protesting against genocide, this has also been used against (and likely was motivated by) climate activists.
What's especially scary is that people don't seem to be aware of how chilling these laws are for human rights. I think it's a cultural thing, where the overton window for what people consider to be normal levels of the state suppressing people like this. We'll be fucked if Reform ever get into power and show us just how easy laws like this make it for fascists
The other posts are absolutely correct from a political standpoint, it likey being driven by lobbying. As well as that though that there were a couple of big incidents that led the government to feel they could justify the proscription.
In 2024 Palestine Action broke into an Elbit factory and ended up in a tussle with the police where one of them hit a police officer from behind with a sledge hammer, fracturing her spine (she's back at work on light duties)
In 2025 Palestine Action broke into a military base and painted (government would say damaging) some of the aircraft.
They were labeled as a terrorist organisation just after the second.
I'm probably in a bit of a left wing bubble living in a major city but, anecdotally, most people I know seem to think you should expect some punishment/jailtime for breaking into a military base, but its just an abuse of power to label them terrorisds. It doesn't feel like a very popular decision and every video of the police arresting grannys reinforces that.
Oh wow I’ve not responded to one of those texts (I always report and block) but I didn’t realize they would actually try to argue with you. Wonder if it’s a text bank or a bot.
It takes twelve of them to wheel a nana out does it? Fucking joke. What an absolute waste of resources. You can't get one to turn up to a burglary or assault up here, but they've got twelve spare to piss around wheeling a nana about because she might have hurt poor ickle Israel's feelings.
There’s 12 cops there because they know they’re doing something so abhorrent that if they only had one or two cops with her, they’d likely get mobbed. It’s a cowardice thing.
I mean I'm pretty sure they also think the law is bullshit and they'd rather not be wasting their time with it. However arrests like these are probably the best way to get the law overturned (and reduce their responsibilities and workload..)
YDI. How dare you checks notes care for other people. Empathy is a moral failing, you see

As an aside, that poor woman. She should be enjoying retirement. Not fucking looking at a decade long prison sentence. I bet those cops are super proud of themselves.
:::
I'm shocked they aren't kicking her over, pepper spraying her, and then dumping a magazine into her and the person helping her and anybody that comes to defend her.

Can a Brit or someone who understands the UK, tell me why there is such an extreme response to protests surrounding Israel and Palestine?

Lmfao the irony of posting an imgur link about the UK to a UK forum, when imgur blocks itself from the UK because it was doing shady financial shit.

Cops aren't there to protect us. They exist to protect the Epstein class.
