In other words: Now that he’s no longer getting any money from Google, he’s suddenly upset that no one is visiting his site anymore, because most of his former visitors now find the answers to their questions directly on Google—the very company to which he sold all of his website’s content.
Well, he could have figured that out sooner. What a moron—but hey, he’s already pocketed the money for all the content he stole from his own users.
It’s a good thing Aaron Swartz doesn’t have to witness all this, especially since the greediest of all corporations are now raking in money with complete impunity for the very thing he was supposed to go to prison for years—even though he had no intention of enriching himself at all.

Tbf maybe people aren't visiting reddit as much because they can't open or view anything from the search engine without an account? And if you make an account you're gonna get randomly banned sitewide a week later for existing wrong?

Is this currently being rolled out? I just tried with a generic search and "reddit" and it let me pull up a few threads.
ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 47d
Yeah, a number of people have been saying they can still get on but Reddit is definitely doing this. It appears to be getting rolled out in some kind of A/B distribution.

Gotcha. I sort of figured so, but didn't know exactly how old the news was.
stephen01king@piefed.zip · 5 pts · 47d
My phone can only open a reddit thread for less than a minute before it locks up and asks for an account.

Oh, lol, I didn't linger long. I was just curious. Maybe what happens to me too.

That's what the other guy said. Don't have the patience to sit looking at a reddit thread for that long. XD

I came here to sell exactly that thing. Sell your stuff to your competitor on the cheap and then wonder why nobody buys from you anymore.

Interesting take Steve. I guess they have to tell investors something other than reddit has allowed AI bot takeover on Subreddits have strict rules that mute most of its real users.

That quote makes it sound like he really understands why the users might not want him to destroy reddit.
Which also makes it sound like he is fully aware of his own conscious choice to destroy what could be a valuable resource for millions of people just so his sorry little ass can get slightly richer than he would have already been.

Its such an insult to say
"Reddit delivers the opposite: deep discussions, passionate debates,"
When they have continually pushed to minimize that format of reddit. The official app works the same way as all of Meta's products, infinite scrolling content, their new website design severely restricts the comment section to just a few replies, instead requiring you click "see more" over and over if you want to continue reading a discussion. Now they are attempting to gatekeep their old.reddit format as well, restricting the ability to view discussions even further.
I have been a reddit user since the mid 2010's and it is so frustrating to see what once was truly the best place on the internet to discover new things, fall so far

As they keep going down this path, slowly communities on lemmy will grow.
It took Reddit nearly 2 decades to become as large as it is today. Lemmy/Open source platforms in general have plenty of time be become just as big.
Or maybe I’m just coping at the permanent loss of something great.

I think at the time, nobody realised how valuable a written transcript of 14 years of verified human conversations would become. "It's just internet comments." But it grew into so many people with unique problems and solution and discussions. Sometimes I imagine if we could somehow read and search that many people's conversations from 1000 years ago

I question the value of reddit's leaderships addiction to selling our content and sucking up to rich zionists.

Reddit could have just continued on a place with good user generated content. Could've been profitable and popular. Instead they shitted it up. So fuck it. I hope their leadership suffers.

Kinda like when you sell the house and then wonder if maybe you liked that house and perhaps should have bought another? Poor guy, I sure hope his entire project doesn't fall on it's face.

The very first quote seems to imply that there aren't bots in reddit. XD
