It was completed a long time ago but not opened because the guy owning the old bridge bribed a certain child rapist who shits himself in the white (trash) house.

Construction of the bridge was completed in June 2026, inaugurated on July 24, 2026, and opened to traffic on July 27, 2026

It should have been opened in June but was delayed by Trump. Ambassador bridge owner paid money into Trump PAC. It’s all there in the article under History -> Delayed Opening.

In June, The Detroit News reported that invitations were being sent out for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 12, with the bridge open to the public shortly after.[96] On the day before the planned ceremony it was announced that the event had been cancelled and that the opening of the bridge was delayed indefinitely to "resolve any outstanding issues".[97][98]. Carney said that the delay had been requested by the United States, and representatives for Trump stated that his position had not changed since February.[99]

The New York Times subsequently reported that billionaire Matthew Moroun (who owns the Ambassador Bridge) had lobbied the Trump administration prior to the announcement.[91][92] The ranking member of the United States House Oversight Committee, Robert Garcia, opened an investigation into Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s earlier meeting with Moroun, sending Lutnick a letter requesting communications related to that meeting.[93] Filings released February 20 showed that Moroun donated US$1 million to MAGA Inc., a Trump-affiliated super PAC, less than a month before Trump's announcement.[94][95]

I don't know the whole story but this happened about 5-months ago.

Trump said in a Truth social post Monday night that he wouldn’t allow the bridge to open “until the United States is fully compensated for everything we have given them, and also, importantly, Canada treats the United States with the Fairness and Respect that we deserve.” Trump suggested the U.S. should take an ownership stake of at least 50% in the bridge and said that U.S. products, such as steel, weren’t used in the construction.

I’m currently watching a video about the Qatari bribe of a private 747 (“free” will cost twice as much as the new Air Force one initiated by Obama and will leave with Trump) …..

Apparently Trump’s plan for his library is to build a huge hotel with his Qatari jet bribe in the lobby on a prime lot in downtown Miami that somehow was sold to him for $10 (where’s that bribe investigation ?)

Finally getting to my point …. The way to control Drump for those of us unable to pay massive bribes is to use flattery, play to his vanity and narcissism. We could sidetrack him into paying attention to that hotel and he might just forget about minor things like being president. He’ll, let’s hire some British royal guards to really treat him like royalty, keep his focus on himself

Part of the “problem” is the toll is too low. It seriously undercuts the the Moroun Family Bridge tolls so the fear is it will attract most of the traffic. Think of the poor billionaire who somehow bought a bridge

So now I'm curious as to how the US/Canada border works. It says that the bridge gives uninterrupted freeway traffic flow, but wouldn't the international border require interruption? How does border crossing work with a bridge like this?

Yes: freeway uninterrupted by city streets, which was how it was before. Highway 401 dumped you into city streets - I don't know exactly how far away from the bridge, but one article I read mentioned 12 traffic lights between the bridge and freeway access.

So that's what they're talking about. Not a Shengen-style border.

On the Canadian side of Ambassador Bridge, you get dropped onto a stroad with stop lights. You can see this in satellite photos of it. The new bridge does not do that, and drops you directly onto a freeway.

Personally, I prefer the tunnel.

How/where do you do the border crossing paperwork?

As an American, or somebody with a US green card, the process is that you drive up to the border crossing and wait in a line of cars. When it's your turn at the booth you give them a stack of passports and green cards, let them visually identify everybody in the vehicle, answer some questions, and then they give your documents back and waive you through. It's basically the same as the immigration process at the airport, except you stay in your vehicle.

Then of course there's a separate toll booth for your tunnel or bridge.
