Self driving has potential to be better than humans. However lacking independent analysis I have no idea of it is. The only people who are taking have reason to lie with statistics.

Release the data- all of it- so we can figure out the truth.

So if the self-driving machine learning algorithm learns by collecting data from human drivers, how could it ever be better than the human drivers it learns from? Especially knowing that these models are nondeterministic and often generate unpredictable and wildly incorrect output.

Not that I trust these systems too much yet, I do see why they can be better:

  1. Reaction time - can break and/or steer much fast than a human
  2. Awareness - can see “everything” all at once
  3. Never tired, influenced or disturbed
  4. What they lean from humans is not just how to handle different situations but also lean from human mistakes
  5. The fact that there are 2 billion drivers world wide (my own made up number) that needs to learn from the ground up and get better with all the falls humans brings to the table, but the car is just one AI (maybe there are more) that needs to be fine tuned to be the best

But as you say, the AI is still putting out weird things once in a while, and maybe the next big painting on the side of a truck makes the AI drive over into incoming traffic…

Also it could monitor the exact speed, acceleration and trajectory of all the other vehicles around it, and (ideally) know exactly how to handle the car to react accordingly.

Yes, this is the only way I see self driving working out personally. It needs to be a general, brand agnostic rollout and all vehicles on the road can talk to each other and function in unison. They would still need all the radar/camera tech as well obviously to account for pedestrians, animals, stuff on the road etc but with a global network I can see it be better than humans.

It's not purely machine learning. Much of it is manually programmed in, like an adaptive cruise control.

We should never allow FSD at all locations at once, approve easy roads (highways) first.

Then we can slowly allow more locations, as they're proving safe to do so. Whether or not Teslas are actually proficient enough doe highways as of now. I have no clue

Exactly what leverage does Tesla have to be able to “pressure” the Dutch government? Either this article is complete clickbait (I didn’t read it for that reason) or Musk has something on somebody (which I doubt). Doesn’t make much sense.

He copied quite literally almost the entirety of data that the whole US government had access to. Also twitter and starlink. Oh and he is willing to use the Epstein files despite them incriminating himself as well.
