yogthos@lemmy.ml · 23 pts · 20d (8 replies)

what modern tanks look like in order to survive drones

gibmiser@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 20d

Yeah but on the plus side ya don't gotta worry about pigeons nesting and shitting all over it!

tyfon@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 19d (1 reply)

I wouldn't call 50 year old tanks "modern".

yogthos@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 19d

I'm really impressed you can tell what kind of tank it is under the plating.

*What Russian tanks look like in order to give a false sense of security re: drones.

You know what works better? Not having a carousel autoloader.

yogthos@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 19d (2 replies)

Wow, thank you so much for taking your valuable time from huffing gas to write all that.

ms_lane@lemmy.world · -3 pts · 19d (1 reply)

It's better than dying in a soviet-era Russian deathtrap.

At leat China cares, they still have a carousel, but they actually have an isolation pod to keep the crew safe on Type 100. That's more than Russia has ever tried.

protogen420@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 19d

both sides are employing this, sure you could argue that russia is doing this in a larger scale and perhaps even more intensely than ukraine but the larger scale can be explained by simply russia having a bigger stockpile of tanks to employ go use

Hellraiser, off-road edition.

I'm curious how much this actually helps.

GenosseFlosse@feddit.org · 6 pts · 20d

I guess the branches would get into the rotors of drones, so you can't control them anymore.

Hairy ballsack

davel@lemmy.ml · 7 pts · 19d (1 reply)

You may not like it, but this is what peak ordinance delivery looks like.

protogen420@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 19d

viruses would agree

Melobol@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 20d

Honestly that's scary as hell.

Both ways: when it charges you or thinking there is technology that creates a need to develop this defense.
And that technology is really easy to turn against the little people.

Tanks are 'easy to spot' as something dangerous - need a lot of resource and man power - drones are too freaking cheap...

CyroSignal@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 19d

The first tanks looked like this.

Reminds me of a Maddox post:

Ding Ding! Here comes the shit-mobile. I've never seen a fire truck that needed to be shaved. I would rather be burned to death than be saved by this hairy piece of shit.

tanks are kinda obsolete , explosives are too op

yogthos@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 19d

They still get used, just in a very different role than before drones were a thing. And the days of big tank formations rolling through are very much over. Nowadays they mostly do mine clearing, artillery support, and mobile command centres.
