Don't we have the resources to provide relief for the deployed soldiers? Why can't we just replace them with fresh soldiers. Morale is so important in extended conflicts. Juicing soilders up with T won't change that.

The youtube channel "What's Going on with Shipping" has a couple videos on the subject, and IIRC it's because the US has, for a host of reasons, lost the ability to easily resupply it's ships during prolonged operations like this. All of the capabilities they had for doing this during WW2 weren't maintained, 'modernized' and/or forgotten.

Nobody ever accused this administration of competence.

Imagine how worse it would be if they were competent on top of it all.

So it's all theater then.

No. It is that they are using the carrier to fight a fight out wasn't designed for. Any sustained use of an aircraft carrier needs resupply, this was the case even in World War II.

The Navy had several wargames where it was obvious that carrier operations against Iran would be far more difficult than most other nations. If anything, I'm surprised the carrier hasn't been sunk yet.

Yeah, it's pretty much on the opposite side of the planet and the Indian Ocean area isn't probably too friendly to the US.

HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club · 2 pts · 2d

It is more that the operations have to occur in or near the Persian Gulf. That doesn't give a carrier that much room to maneuver.

There are friendly nations nearby that host US bases, but they are also being targeted.

Do you think Kegsbreath even considers logistics?

Why not put them there in the first place?

DrPop@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2d

You're right, I'm just arguing their actions after the fact.

It's not really new that no government gives as shit about the people they send to war. But somehow they still sign up.
