Whatever the result of the by-election, either Farage loses the election to a bin and that's not great, or he wins against a bin and that's not much better. Either way, Farage has already lost.

The voters of Clackton had a chance to stand up to corruption, to get rid of a shit MP, to fix an error, and to get a bit of a tourism bump. But the majority of them bottled it. Very disappointing. But having been to Clacton before, I'm not surprised.
I watched a video where people in Clacton were interviewed about who they were going to vote for. They were all voting for Nigel. None of them had a clue why he'd called the election. They ALL had missing teeth.
Non-brit here. Can someone explain that move? He gets investigated and resigns, so the investigation stops. He then triggers an election that he wins, so the investigation is back on? What did he get from that besides attention?
Not even that, the investigation could continue regardless of him being an MP, it's more that the consequences of a parliamentary investigation are limited to parliament, so there's little point if he's no longer an MP (except they could prevent him from ever being an MP again). And the police can also investigate separately, but they traditionally hold off until a parliamentary investigation is completed.

It delayed the investigation by a number of weeks, allowing him, or someone else, to hide something before it got investigated.

Apparently his team told the dumbdumb that resigning would end the investigation, but didn't know that regaining his seat would reopen it. Whoopsies.
