My eyes widened in horror as I realized the sheer number of rectangles everywhere

Hexagons are bestagons, but are much harder to fabricate.

Nah bees do it by making circles that melt into each other, easy enough.

e621 user spotted.

User self reporting. What gave them away?

Fermion@feddit.nl · 3 pts · 31d

I'm not aware of what that is. I got the phrase from the CGP Grey video, "Circles Waste Space. Hexagons don't."

Ok, but also Round Rects

That's actually a really neat story. I question the authenticity, but it's neat.

Does sound pretty fake. Doesn't really read like an actual Steve Jobs story.

Yeah, not nearly enough spousal and child abuse or screwing over the other founding members until The Great Woz comes in later to pay from his own shares.

Rectangles and squares feel uniquely human. Not many other things in nature make these shapes

sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works · 25 pts · 31d (2 replies)

And then pyrite does this somehow.

DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social · 3 pts · 31d

I've got an example like that on my desk specifically so I can stare at it when someone says right angles don't occur in nature

Bismuth too, and...I wanna say it's galena.

It's just the fact, that they are rather easy to make, since you just need to draw a line between two points and continue from there. Humans are attached to that. It helps to dis- and reassemble the world in a simple methodical way. The eye can more easily align itself with lines. Why? In fact lines are very unnatural and disturbing for us. That's how we got to make use of them. Imagine the street and houses around you were based on fractals. You'd possibly turn crazy and disoriented in no time, trying to make sense of everything. By the way, fuck cubism and Picasso in particular!

what a square

dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 6 pts · 31d

Every rectangle you see is two triangles. There are at least twice as many triangles you see than rectangles.

greenbit@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 31d

Rectangles fake, fractals real

Cats like rectangles too, hence we like cats.

Etterra@discuss.online · 3 pts · 31d

So much non-euclidian geometry is driving us all insane. Damn you curvature of the earth, damn you.

It could be worse. We could have circular screens instead of rectangles, right now.

Horror? Wtf?
