That's surprising. The cynic in me thinks they'd want him under contract so they could pick what he reports on.

Apple tried that, it didn’t work out for them.

Apple's attempt an censorship made it really clear Stewart has whatever he feels is a "fuck you" level of money.

If he stays it'll be on his own terms.

I don't know if it's about him having enough money (not that he doesn't have a lot, I'm sure), or if he just has principles. The causes he leads and participates in outside of his comedy/media career points to that I think.

On The Daily Show on April 8, 2024, in an interview with FTC Chair Lina Khan, Stewart discussed some of his problems with Apple, and said that when he wanted to have Khan on the show,

"Apple asked us not do it ... They literally said 'please don’t talk to her'."[15]

Stuff like this always makes me this of episode 2 of Black Mirror.

This is part of the ghoul-boy’s (Oracle nepo-baby) new charm offensive to mislead the States that sued to block the Paramount WB merger. As soon as they’re fooled and the merger goes through, Stewart and the Daily Show will join Colbert and Late Show.

The late late show. RIP

The Daily Show and South Park are the only things of value for Comedy Central. They can keep killing stuff for ideological reasons, but that’s not going to be great for business.

Republicans hate comedy, so I think they’re ok with the collateral damage that would cause.

American consumption of media continues to climb, even as the quality continues to slop-ify.

At the end of the day, TV consumption is all the western working class can afford to do with their free time. Like the navy crewmen of the USS Lincoln, they'll eat what's served them.

I want Jon Stewart as President instead. Him and Terry Crews together. One of them can make speeches, and the other one can stand shirtless in congress flexing his oily pecs and staring threateningly at the congressfolk to make sure they don't vote for no bullshit.

I don't really mind who does which job.

I second that!

Ellison's Token Liberal

Imagine spending the better half of your career working for the ghouls at Viacom and still getting downgraded. Stewart either needs to get his ass to an indie host like, idk Dropout, or just fucking retire already. There's absolutely no reason he should be earning money for these genocidal fucks, unless he's completely abandoned his principles.

Not quite that simple. There's a large audience to be reached where he is now. His fans will follow him to an indie host, but not the people who watch it every once in a while because whatever. And those are the people he needs to reach with his message.

There’s a large audience to be reached where he is now.

There's a small audience on the actual channel and a large audience getting his content second hand on social media.
