We should convert Epstein Island into a maximum security island. No facilities, with gunboats patrolling the coastal waters to prevent the inmates from escaping. Maxwell, Trump, DeSantis, and all the others can live the rest of their lives there.

Pure vindictive fantasies, not real policy for me. It's painful to know that I can never actually condone the comeuppances I think these people deserve because they're just not part of the world I would like to create. Ultimately I think such people should be tried at the Hague for crimes against humanity and humanely put to death.
SabinStargem@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 1d
I am kinda against that, unfortunately. The Nuremberg trials resulted in the execution of about 210ish Nazis. I expect American elites to avoid justice if taken to trial.

This is what Americans voted for, and for a year and a half they have been completely ineffective at stopping it.
So this is what the American people want, and if you are one of those that don't. I know perfectly well there are a number of Americans that tried to prevent this, and are trying to stop it.
But as a people Americans are letting this happen, together with all the other atrocities that are happening in a society governed by psychopathy and lawlessness.
This is eerily similar to Nazi Germany. It happened because it was allowed to happen by the people.
Too many are sympathizers or cowards, and the rest are too few to matter.

Then they are among the cowards. If they weren't, they would seek out equal minded people and try to do something more effective than just marching.
MJKee9@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 1d
This doesn't help. It's victim blaming. The marching is the effort. People only have access to what they see and what they hear. If there are no marches, then what most people only see and hear is a curated narrative by the billionaires. The marches show others they aren't alone. If you truly want a progressive uprising, stop being a dick, and encourage those who are trying to win back our country from fascists.
Buffalox@lemmy.world · -18 pts · 1d
The people are not the victim here, the people are the ones who are guilty this happened in the first place.
USA may be a flawed democracy, but it is still a democracy.
So no this is not victim blaming.
Again only excuses. You can march, but that is not enough. There needs to be clear demands, and there needs to be planned actions if demands aren't met.
It's trivial to put up websites that can work independently from the media controlled by the 1%.
That can organize local groups, and states and federal at the highest level.
But nobody is doing anything. Apparently Americans won't sacrifice anything to rescue their democracy and country. 😔
Unfortunately you average Democrat is not your best friend on this issue, they are happily letting everything happen, and some even support it! They hope they will take the next turn, and win the next election by a landslide, and then the pendulum can go on like that forever. Except this may be the last chance for USA to save their democracy.

Waffelmeister@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d
They elected him twice. It hurts me to say it, but (most) Americans are evil as fuck. It's just this deeply toxic culture, which gets reproduced in every aspect of their lives.
They are obsessed with violence, their cars a basicly tanks, they have more guns then people, no maternity protections, mass surveillance, they worship their celebrities like drones their queen. They start war after war, build torture prisons around the world, destroy the environment, they bomb schools then turn around and say shit like: Thank you for you service. But don't blame the soldiers, they have no choice. They call it "Land Of The Free", "A shining city upon a hill", they say "Make America Great Again".
Every half decent thing they monetise until it's hollowed out, they poison, cheat, scam, torture, kill, then lie about it. Most of all they lie to themselfs. They are vampires of the soul, ghouls of the heart, monsters in human form. And their fucking culture expands like a virus.
And I speak with the pain of a disappointed lover, I loved their music, their artistic brilliance as shown in movies, musicals, theater, literature, journalism, hell even tec. But it's all a big scam, designed to amass power. Designed to enslave and exploit every last corner of this earth.

But I could tell you a lot about WW2 Germany. Concentration Camps were an open secret. For example, in my own home county, there was one of those camps. In 1945 there was a big escape. Civilians from all around came together to hunt and kill the escapees. From 500 escapees 11 survived. I would call that evil.
Now this flame of evil has passed onto you guys. And you carry it with pride and ignorance.
Buffalox@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1d
Exactly, I too used to look up to American society in the 70's, strongly influenced by TV shows, where Americans obviously always are the good guys. But that was also when Carter became president, and decency was an important part of the American administration. But since then it has been downhill politically, regarding decency and trying to build a better society for all.
I've been arguing for more than 2 decades that American society is now decidedly sociopathic.
3 times and you're out, lack of healthcare to big portions of the population. Extreme poverty despite USA is one of the richest countries in the world.
Complete failure in weapons control despite schools shootings are so common it's barely news worthy anymore.
Police killing people for no reason even in their own homes, because police entered the wrong house.
Police almost never being held accountable. But they still allow death penalty!
Massive CO2 pollution per capita and doing very little about it, and still driving big gas guzzling SUVs. USA is far from lifting their share in preventing global warming. It's even a popular political viewpoint to make it worse instead, actively preventing improvements!
People die because their insurance doesn't cover a friggin ambulance, and they don't want to call it because they can't afford it!
Discrimination even legally of minorities like LGBT. And also widespread discrimination of people of color. This in a multiethnic country that built its economy on slavery!
The list simply goes on and on, and for about 2 decades there has been just about ZERO progress!! It's sickening and insane how morally and politically backwards and intolerant Americans are as a society.
But I think it is reaching a point where American society is so toxic, it's beginning to hurt their economy, in part because the world is disgusted by them, and in part because an unhealthy society is simply bad for the economy. Worse educated workers, and less motivated, and more often sick. If you have a skill, don't go to USA because they pay more. It will ruin your family life, your life/work balance, and you will die younger.
Edit:
Wow, some idiot downvoted this. 🤡 What a clown, not even able to point out a single inaccuracy. 🤣

What do you suggest we do? Have you considered organizing it yourself? As an American, I can't do much against the police in a police state. We are very carefully trained and punished in compulsory K-12 education to comply with authority per John Taylor Gatto. Over zealous policing has been a feature of the US since slavery. Many of us were happy with Obama helping to reduce police violence. Right now the US congress is majority right-wing conservative, and they don't seem to be considering impeachment and removal. My personal view is that about all most of us can legally do is vote against the right.
BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 13 pts · 1d
These people come from countries the size of a medium sized state. We have lakes bigger than many of their countries. They have no idea how impossible it is for Americans to rise and violently revolt, and take over America. The last time it happened, we were a third the size we are now, and that failed, too. Just because revolution MIGHT work in a small nation across the ocean, doesn't mean it will work here.
We have at least two Constitutional guideposts to get through before we declare the end of democracy, and the end of America: the Midterms, and if that succeeds, the 2028 Presidential Election. But if we can get past the inevitable MAGA nonsense that will follow each of those guideposts, and elect the right Democratic Warriors to deal decisively with the severe National Security Threat that MAGA represents, we have a chance to rebuild America from the MAGA rubble in positive direction, and make America deliver on the original promises of the Founding Documents.
As responsible American Citizens, we have to exhaust every Constitutional opportunity before we declare a Civil War, and we can't be swayed by the opinions of those who only want to see America burn for their own sick entertainment.
Buffalox@lemmy.world · -18 pts · 1d
What you do should fall natural to you.
You talk with other people friends family and coworkers.
And you meet with those that agree that Trump has to be stopped, and put your heads together on what you can do.
And you reach out to other groups that do the same.
All this can be done perfectly legal without risk in USA, because USA has not fallen so far yet to prevent that.
Then all the groups that are near each other communicate with each other, until you have grassroots on the state level, and the state level communicat4e on the federal level.
You call out on social media for people to do this, and a grassroots movement can be created very quickly if the interest is there.
I am not American, so it is not really my place to meddle in local American politics, USA is a democracy, and movements like this can be created absolutely unhindered.
Your defeatist attitude is what is preventing it, and apparently all of USA is suffering from it.
Bullshit. Pure and simple Bullshit. This puts you in the coward category unless you break free of that.

I don't remember any countries declaring sanctions against the US. You're comfortable in it being "good enough" because actually taking on a national government is dangerous. When faced with potential life in prison or execution by government agents and you step up to the line, then you can really tell us what you would do. It's easy to say you'd give your life to a cause from a keyboard.
Buffalox@lemmy.world · -3 pts · 1d
Nope, but the people do.
People around the world are fed up with USA, all polls show the same, people hate USA and we don't trust you. Among most former allies, China is now more trusted than USA.
And this is not the government alone, it is trust in the American people and democracy that has been lost.

impabloblyjuan@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 1d
You know nothing, yet you have so much to say…
Many environmental regulations and green energy initiatives were torn asunder by executive orders, i.e. outside of the legislative process. On top of that, the courts (unelected positions at the federal level) and the majority Republican/conservative Congress has allowed/enacted redistricting that weakens areas that are leaning left and strengthens right leaning strongholds. That weakens voters’ ability to counteract regressive ballot measures and/or bills. A common political tactic used in Congress is to add an unpopular clause or initiative to a popular bill to Trojan horse bad policy or to kill a bill meant to enact popular changes You should read about how the Stop Insider Trading Act was paired with a wildly unpopular voter registration requirement -
https://political.org/2026/07/22/house-advances-stock-trading-ban-for-congress-members-democrats-split-on-voter-id-provision/
What I’m getting at is that bad actors in our government have been using legal loopholes to avoid using the legislative process, where they would never get support for the policies that are being forced through now. We haven’t even started talking about the Supreme Court… so please, stop talking down to the people who would be your allies if you could let go of your anger and pride. Many, if not most, Americans are unhappy with the government’s actions domestically and abroad, but organizing a national movement like you’re referring to requires major coordination, education, and resources; all of which are difficult to marshal in a country as geographically large and demographically heterogeneous as the US. It also doesn’t help that federal funding for social services and many social goods are being reduced or eliminated, so now us poors have to figure out how to fill the gaps within our communities. Organizing starts with being neighborly and, brother, you’re being a bad neighbor.
