Not taken in black and white.

I noticed that all our cars at work were either black or grey. It looks odd. Where did all the colourful cars go. ( There's a red one just out of shot to be honest )

IMO, people who buy dark coloured cars are stupid.

  1. We're in Australia, where the sun be fair beaming and dark colours soak up heat way more than a more reflective|lighter colour
  2. Visibility of dark cars is worse because they blend in to the bitumen and concrete background at the best of times
  3. Whenever conditions are poor (rain, fog, dusk, whatever) it's by far the majority of dark coloured cars driving along without headlights on. My unscientific observation is that 90% of the cars you see in poor visibility without lights are dark coloured in any car shape. The other 10% are Toyotas which is probably because they have a dash that's always illuminated which makes it less obvious if you don't have your headlights on.
  4. Dark colours look dirty about 4 seconds after washing them so you're either constantly wasting water shining up your piece of coal, or you're driving around in a dusty old bit of charcoal.

Dark coloured cars are a dealbreaker for me just for reason 1 alone. I can't fathom why anybody would want one.

My new ( 2007, far right in the pic ) Jag is possibly the worst colour for being seen in poor conditions. I do however have my headlights on all the time ( well while driving ) I've been doing this for a fair few years now.

But also yes I might be stupid I have to agree.

I only have a black car, because I picked out my options/colours from the factory, the color name had blue in it, the pictures of the color showed a blue car, and I wanted a blue car.

Turns out, this car is so dark that it only looks somewhat blue in very specific lighting.

I just got one. The lucid blue and digital teal aren't super bright, but they are cool layered colors that look different close-up and depending on the light.

I think my next car is going to be something colourful. Zeekrs green, Denzas blue, Mazdas red.... GWM has some pretty pinks, Renault has an assortment of obnoxious yellows.... Jaecoo dishes up coffee colours in various forms.

I do love the white and black stormtrooper look (white panels, dark tint, black trim) but its time for a change I reckon.

I do like those Ioniqs. They're a good balance of futuristic but with their design still relative to what a car looks like. Unsure if I'm making sense there fully as it's 4:20 am and the grey matter isn't functioning properly just yet.

And OMG they obviously hold their price well ( Having said that I have no idea how much they are new ) A four year old one for over $40,000, wow.

And yes the colour selection is kinda bland for sure. I wonder if we will have a pendulum swing and get back to colourful cars again ever ?

yeah i love the design, the aircon and volume knobs, and someone has mentioned the teal is not as bland so i’ll aim for it… in a few years once i’ve paid off me little townhouse…

Plates can be fun and a relatively inexpensive way to add a bit of difference to a car in my opinion, but each to their own of course.

I think it is getting a bit better, the last few years has seen slightly more colours come back. It's still largely boring but there are a few red, blue, and green cars around again instead of everything being grey, white, or silver. Grey can look rather nice on the right car but it's a bit much when every boring SUV joins in.

I'll note Mazda seemed to lead a bit of a resurgence a while back with red and that is a colour I do like, dark green is my favourite though (I've seen a few newish BMWs with a particularly nice dark green, I hope it starts a trend).
