Photography word for the out of focus bits. The design of the lens, shape and quantity is aperture blades, maximum aperture size, distance to the subject, all kinds of stuff make the blurry bits different. Phones often try to fake this with a portrait mode setting.
John sat down beside the old horsetrack. The sound of clacking hooves had dissapeared months ago, along with the voices of people. He watched the clouds passing by at unnatural speed, churning and changing colors. Whatever it was that had brought this mysterious and sudden plight upon humanity, had a cruel ironic beauty in it. Maybe today his batch would finally show the promised effect. He stared at the jar. This must be it. The final remedy promised in the scrolls and books he had studied for so long. The sweet tea to heal them all and end this beautiful madness. He filled a cup .. and drank it.
Instantly, a sense of overwhelming power and justice grew out of his stomach and rattled his teeth. Casting aside the lingering thoughts about sugar and caffeine content, he curled his hand into an almighty fist, wound himself down tight whilst fixating at the sky above, and then, with a deep beath, released. The effect was immediate, a hot stewy mass descended down his left trouser leg with a movement so swift that he knew he would not need to wipe.
My old S4 and S8 did take pictures like that. Especially the S4 with heavy post processing using Snapseed.
Boosted highlights, boosted contrast, boosted shadows.

That's some weird bokeh. What lens is this?
SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 17h
My guess is it's digital processing, phones are increasingly baking it into certain photo modes.
brucethemoose@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 15h
It usually doesn't look like that though.
Some weird or really old lenses can have effects like this though.

The bokeh makes no sense at all, it’s either added by a (terrible) smartphone software or, of course, good old AI slop.

You can make custom bokeh patterns, y'know.

"
AccidentallyCasually." That was definitely intentional framing. Otherwise the tea would have been centered. The composition is just too solid for me to believe it wasn't on purpose.

Looks like AI slop upscaling on the background. Might be some sort of in-camera post processing.
There's either a line of tall, single, white posts down the middle of the brown patch of dirt, or the distance fence posts got extended somehow.
m0darn@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 12h
yeah the background is fucky, like a sharpened blur effect or something
