Granted, I was lucky to have a solid web of friends available to me during my upbringing, but that's lucky/rare, I think, perhaps. Nothing special about me either, I just treated people the way I wanted to be treated. Turns out that's a pretty solid strategy... Who would've guessed.
My general observation is that paradoxically it is much harder to make friends as an adult, yet many more people are willing to be your friend - or at least be friendly with you.
Yes, I work more than 8 hours a day. I work in software, but will be cagy about industry for reasons. AI, Layoffs, and the good old rank and tank are all creating some pretty rough seas.
I also work as a software engineer but in Europe. I imagine the things you described here are mostly issues with American business practices? Those ranking practices would be scandal headline news where I live 😅.
Oh! I wondered where the "negative canthal tilt" thing came from. Someone asked about here on Lemmy a few months back. I told them it's just fashion. That it used to be called "bedroom eyes" and was a desirable trait, and that it probably would come back around again.

So much more shit to take care of, innit. With kids and 8h work days, there's barely any time to meet people.
No recess to just walk up to people and say "you want to play?"
I do sports in a big group and have done for many years now, and that helps a lot with socializing. Common hobbies make pretty good friends. 😁

😭 I wish I stuck to 8 hours. The joys of being a salary wage slave in an industry that's rapidly undergoing significant change.
I do run into lots of folks who are friendly. They even offer to hang out. But my days are completely filled with work and family right now.

The way your eyes tilt. Positive canthal tilt means the tear duct close to the bridge of your nose is below the other corner of your eye.
Negative canthal tilt means the outside corner of your eye sits below the inside corner (close to the bridge of your nose).
