That doesn't belong in this sub. That is amazing.

They look great!

You oversaw how they grew themselves.

BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 4d

I did put a tutor with my own two hands, please clap!

tetris11@feddit.uk · 4 pts · 4d

They incepted the seeds of growth into the minds of the tomatoes to bootstrap themselves into existence.

*taps forehead*

it was the plant that did the growing, the humans merely stand by and watched. that is why all the food should actually belong to the plants.

Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 4d

How dull! I hope they taste awesome.

webp@mander.xyz · 9 pts · 4d

Not dull. Good job.

BigDiction@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 4d (2 replies)

Nice the dang squirrels ate most of mine this year.

Johnmannesca@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2d (1 reply)

Did you try putting up a barrier of garlic? Squirrels typically don't mess with that.

BigDiction@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2d

Did not, perhaps a strategy for next year

tortina_original@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 4d

You didn't grow them.

They grow by themselves.

Thank you for attending my TED talk.

Toasted tomato sandwiches are the best late summer lunch ever!

TIEPilot@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 4d

Grass@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 4d

this is the way

decolo@piefed.social · 5 pts · 4d

mmm juicy.

antianarchist@sopuli.xyz · 5 pts · 4d

Technically, the plant grew them. You just made sure the plant didn’t think of dying. Just to betray your plant. Your dear love. Only because you want to steal its offspring with the sole purpose of devouring them.

Nice.

20cello@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 4d

That's a cool strain, I've never cultivated that particular one, good job btw, they look healthy and juicy

LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 4d

Yum. They look delicious! Had a tomato that my friend grew (it was nowhere near that big) and it was wonderful!

LovableSidekick@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 4d (3 replies)

Do you find the skins on these somewhat tougher than on store-bought tomatoes? I noticed this about mine back when I grew them for a couple years. Like they're more robust or something.

BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 4d

Yes, definitely

CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de · 1 pts · 3d (1 reply)

I think that has to do with heat, nutrient, or water stress. Commercial tomatoes have been bred to have tougher skins, specifically, for shipping. I haven’t had the time to really dig into why my tomatoes sometimes are tough and sometimes delicate.

LovableSidekick@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3d

Commercial tomatoes are usually shipped unripe, so they're harder and I think that's how they survive shipping. Tomatoes I've grown myself and received from other people's gardens have always had thicker, tougher skins than the ones from the store.

Tiral@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 4d

Dang, they look nice!

LadyButterfly@reddthat.com · 3 pts · 3d

They're beauties! You must be proud

Sir_Premiumhengst@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 4d (1 reply)

And some dull squashes in the back?

BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 4d

Not sure which kind, it grew from leftover seeds from my compost, it has yet to bear fruits

Felis_Catus_Domesticus@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 4d

yum yum yum

davetortoise@reddthat.com · 3 pts · 4d

Tomato tomato

Johnmannesca@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2d (2 replies)

Make sure you save some seeds!

BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2d (1 reply)

How long do dried seeds survive? I know they get easily to the next season, but beyond this? I ask because I saved some green peas two years ago just drying them, last year it was OK, this year I'd say just 5% germinated. My partner keeps asking me to keep seeds for the end of the world 😅

Johnmannesca@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2d

Hardest part is removing the tomato seed's membrane but after that they can last for years

gandalf_der_13te@feddit.org · 2 pts · 3d

wrong community. that's not dull at all (/jk of course ^^)
