Moto G 5g 2024 (XT2417-1) returns "failed to get unlock data"

Recently bought a phone specifically for the purpose of using it with lineage os. It was somewhat cheap and had a headphone jack so I was pretty excited but I am stuck. OEM unlocking is already toggled. Fastboot does recognize the device, but fastboot oem get_unlock_data fails. Used the debian versions of fastboot and adb and the latest ones downloaded online, neither changes anything.

Any thoughts?

I have installed Lineage on the same phone in the past. I seem to remember a step I needed to do through Motorola to properly unlock the device. I found this link on the install page—have you attempted this yet?

I can't do this step until I get an output from get_unlock_data

I think it's just not possible for whatever reason.

Went on the discord but no help there unfortunately.

I use this phone w Lineageos as my daily, following the instructions provided worked for me.

Questions for you:

  1. Did you make a Motorola account?
  2. Did you install Android SDK?
  3. Did you install Motorola USB Drivers

  1. Yes, but I can't proceed because I can't get the OEM unlock command to succeed

  2. Yes.

  3. I use Linux, I'm unsure if these drivers are available. I wasn't able to find them.
