How to keep up to date with tech trends among younger people?

I realize this makes me sound very old. I am a very curious person and want to continously develop and adapt.

Some trends might not be improvements, but some might be.

Ask them what their 6-7 favorite features are

🤪🫴🫴

Note: Downvote this as a cautionary tale to the younger generations

It's quite easy actually. You just need to spend 90% of your day watching TikTok. /s

Seriously though what do you mean by this? Most young people 'tech trends' are just capitalism fucking them over, the screen time of gen z and gen A is insane. There is nothing interesting going on there, all the cool stuff is here on lemmy: Linux, open source, AI without the billionaire hype etc.

I'm a member of the younger generation myself and I don't understand why people so many people don't see it as a leach on their lives, maybe it's my neurodivergence that makes me have a different perspective.

I will add onto this and say that new trends in general spread through ads for younger generation.

Just using an adblock makes me feel disconnected at times because idk what new movie or app my friends are talking about.

pineapple@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 1d

And then every experience I have using someone else's device is "how do you possibly put up with this many ads"

ComradePenguin@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 3d

I am also skeptical of many trends, especially short form videos. I find it surprising if there is no positive trends also.

Example?

ComradePenguin@lemmy.ml · 7 pts · 4d (4 replies)

Sending voice instead of text to friends

pdxfed@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 4d

Counterpoint: the only people who do that in my sphere are kids calling their helicopter parents on smart watches that already have gps ok them, or old folks who aren't that comfortable typing or don't care that others around them may not want to listen to them dictate a message.

Ask chat gpt these types of questions. It's usually pretty good with that.

Anarki_@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 3d (1 reply)

no

404found@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 3d

Ok

umbrella@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 4d (2 replies)

don't. most people probably need less technology in their lives, not more.

thermogel@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 3d (1 reply)

true, but for getting a job, it is quite important to be "up to date" woth the field of work. think of what happens to people that are closer to retiring, they're seen as "obsolete" because of this

umbrella@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 3d

work forcing us to keep up with (and build) bullshit is a part of the reason we are surrounded by bullshit.

Ibuthyr@feddit.org · 4 pts · 2d

The age of curiosity and actual tech that is useful is over. Young people are glued to either an iPhone or a Samsung and they use the preinstalled stock apps, like TikTok and Instagram. There is no creativity, no advancement in tech, nothing. You're better off developing yourself by reclaiming tech.

hexagonwin@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 2d

hi, young person here. stuff my 'techie' friends talk about are at best the latest apple iphone/macbook or LLM stuff which is quite boring. honestly there's nothing interesting in tech these days so that's probably why.

I got you fam.

YouTube. I know. That's the millennial in me talking but I'm serious.

Don't use it how it's given to you. Don't click suggested videos, use Freetube or Newpipe.

Don't let "The Algorithm" tell you what's interesting, find it. Subscribe to it.

Build your feed by specifically finding and subscribing to channels you trust and care about.

Cultivate your interests. Surround yourself with the news, stories, and goofy nonsense that relate to your particular goals.

This is what I do. I can't use the internet like y'all do. I remember the old ways.

I can suggest channels if you're interested.

not OP but i'm curious of your channel recommendations. please share some :)

I generally assume these days it’s AI-reliant/adjacent and remain in my Luddite cave.

Elextra@literature.cafe · 2 pts · 2d

It's honestly like popular memes and anything that is "viral". Best way to keep up is likely Instagram and Tiktok? However, this may also result in a ton of stupid videos as well.

I also learned what a millenial pause was last year. This site coincidentally has a lot of GenZ slang. Is that what you are referring to? Their slang or their content?

How to keep up to date with tech trends among younger people?

I don't want to hurt people on purpose but I feel it a diservice If i don't say this. The trends of young people are the result of over socialisation (conformity) and the passing down of beta cuck tradition from their loser ass parents. I farted now breath that in thats the new trend. The downvotes make me so horney. You are a dominated people. Grow up be better adults. you make me sick. "Functional unemployment" nearing 25% in U.S., analysis finds You have been blessed by my mere presence on this platform. Repect yourselves and grow up.

keep em cumming turds. I grow stronger everyday. Your hatred sustains me. 👹 I am trying to snap you out of your learned helplessness. If I have to be a vilian then so be it. GROW THE FUCK UP
