In the first article I read about this, the property explained that the officers didn't even consult the property about executing the search on their property. I'm certain if the officers had consulted the family, they could have arranged to put the animals in a safe location so the officers could search for the girl.
But they didn't, because the police don't give a fuck. I hope they fire this clown and the family sues the department for everything they have.

Unfortunately, the law generally doesn't recognize 'pain and suffering' or 'emotional anguish' damages in cases involving death/injury to an animal. Generally, courts view animals strictly as property, so it would be taken as a 'damage to property' case, and damages would be limited to the replacement value of the donkey. Maybe also the cost of disposing of the body. Not sure what baby miniature donkeys go for these days, but it can't be more than a few thousand at most. And that's if the court agrees that shooting the donkey was unreasonable and unnecessary ... which I wouldn't hold my breath on -- they tend to side with the cops most of the time.

He turned on a hand tazer. The donkey didn't respond to a 2 in arc of electricity, so he shot him. No warning shot, or anything either.

They shouldn't have been in the pen anyway. Trespassing without a warrant.

a MINIATURE donkey no less. Friggin blood hounds that were with them were probably bigger and more aggressive than this thing. and after looking at the neckbeard back yard yolkel photo of the cop yeah it doesn't surprised me why he'd be so scared. hope the dude never comes across a squirrel with an acorn, he'll likely get PTSD.

I'm no animal expert , but I've heard that some farmers will put llamas on their land to protect their other livestock from coyotes (I guess llamas are known to trample coyotes?).
Do donkeys exhibit the same behaviors? I'm just attempting to hypothesize why a donkey would "charge" a group of K-9s.
