Haven't seen stargate in almost 20 years, so that's what I'm currently using to break my ST background noise habit

DmMacniel@feddit.org · 3 pts · 5d (5 replies)

Computer is sad, why have you done that :(

AbsolutelyNotSpez@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 5d (4 replies)

So I can install Eddie's personality instead and drive every crew member mad.

ummthatguy@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 5d (2 replies)

That cheeriness is tantamount to a war crime. Can't we settle for something a little more realistic?

AbsolutelyNotSpez@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 5d

I got you covered, friend!

DmMacniel@feddit.org · 3 pts · 5d

You are mad!!

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 5d

NO! We're not going to pull a Tommy Westphall on Star Trek.

AmazingSUPERG@thelemmy.club · 7 pts · 5d (1 reply)

I never watched Voyager when it came out but I am watching from the start now. Only 2 episodes in but quite enjoyable.

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 7 pts · 5d

Voyager gets dogged here a lot, but it was one of my favorite ST series. Still is, I go back and watch old episodes all the time.

I feel seen 🥰

I just started watching TNG (abd DS9)

I have a new theory: Picard wasn’t that great, but when Riker arrives Picard tells him he needs to help the captain project an air of geniality, especially to children.

We know after Enterprise the show is actually Riker’s holodeck simulation, so how do we not know that he’s whitewashed the heck out of Picard’s legacy?

Are you saying that the ENT finale implies that what we see of TNG was just a long holodeck recreation? I have heard the theory that ENT is just the holodeck, but TNG being the holodeck as well is new to me.

ummthatguy@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 5d (4 replies)

Not necessarily a holodeck program, but one could argue that what we're watching is a recreation of events based on logs/reports that are rife with bias and exaggeration.

SatyrSack@quokk.au · 5 pts · 5d (2 replies)

Does ENT imply that in any way?

ummthatguy@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 5d (1 reply)

Not that I had considered, just extrapolating from the top comment an idea I'd previously run across.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 5d

you know what, i've just decided my favorite bullshit explanation for a season or series existing is now "it was all Q fucking with [Picard/the timeline/Janeway/Picard again/humanity/punched in the face]"

usernamefactory@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 5d

The Great Bird’s introduction to the TMP novelization makes it clear that the original show, and presumably all the later ones, are just dramatizations of real events. Jim Kirk signed off on the novelization, so it’s a much more accurate depiction.

So the popular conception that live action is canon and novels are apocryphal is backwards.

I had a week without Internet and only had lower decks season 3 saved locally.

I know now every cadence of every sentence in that season.

Lower decks is so packed with references, even on my gazillionth rewatch i discovered a new reference.

Season 3 was really good. I love it when they bring up things that only happened in the animated series.

imminent_nebula@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 5d (2 replies)

I loved Lower Decks. Always been a big Trek fan but never gave it a go until a few months ago, same with SNW. I kind of gave up on Trek after Discovery and gave LD and SNW a go on a whim and thoroughly enjoyed both.

kamenlady@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3d

One of my favorites from both shows is the LD & SNW crossover episode. Boimler freaking out at a smiling Spock is golden.

AbsolutelyNotSpez@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3d

Prodigy is surprisingly great as well. It took me a few episodes to get into it, but wow, what a ride!

HeyJoe@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 5d

I am the complete opposite... movies and shows I basically never rewatch anything. Even my friends don't get it, but to me I just feel like there is soooooo much stuff coming out that I just keep watching new things.
