They can though. Cause of the agreement you signed your first term

Reannlegge@lemmy.ca · 23 pts · 4d (1 reply)

Haven’t you heard Trump crumpled it up said it was the worst deal ever than ate it.

SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca · 6 pts · 4d

Only an idiot would sign that deal!

Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 4d

Like rapist in chief will honour any agreements.

ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 4d

They put outs into that agreement. Reviewing it every 5 years and final say on any trade agreement made with countries not in the agreement.

Canada's China deal needs US approval to keep us in CUSMA.

Then get your fucking car companies out of here first

farmgineer@nord.pub · 18 pts · 4d (7 replies)

Canada and Mexico should coordinate to expel the US car companies at the same time. This won't happen because a lot of people would suddenly become unemployed, though.

Reannlegge@lemmy.ca · 9 pts · 4d (5 replies)

We should make a community of people who work together to make new cars to sell to the capitalist hell scape we are in, Canada and Mexico can work with a social frame work towards vehicle manufacturing. There is a word for that, an -ism of some sort, kinda like our healthcare system now what could that word be?

i_love_FFT@jlai.lu · 4 pts · 4d (2 replies)

A bit like healthcare for industries? Industrialcare?

Reannlegge@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 4d (1 reply)

I was thinking more a long the socialism.

Doubleohdonut@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 4d

Just make sure to spray for Doug Ford repeatedly.

SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca · -4 pts · 4d (1 reply)

Great, most of us will have to drive Ladas while party officials will all be driving Mercedes Benz.

Knoxvomica@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 2d

Yeah Japanese, European and Chinese cars dont exist.

Auli@lemmy.ca · -1 pts · 3d

Do not expect any help from Mexico or anyone.

ergonomic_importer@piefed.ca · 30 pts · 4d

This is reminiscent to how the Airbus A220 came to be. Boeing got all pissy about Bombardier selling their new narrow-body CSeries for cheaper than the 737 and lobbied the government to block the sale, arguing the industry could be threatened.

nyan@lemmy.cafe · 25 pts · 4d

Fine. We'll sell to the rest of the world while your domestic industry builds planes that have a nasty habit of falling out of the sky.

codydodd@lemmy.ca · 20 pts · 4d (2 replies)

Anyone who denies this is anything less than a trade war is someone who fantasizes about bullies.

CapuccinoCoretto@lemmy.world · 26 pts · 4d (1 reply)

This is much more than a trade war. It's an attack on our sovereignty.

Reannlegge@lemmy.ca · 15 pts · 4d

Carney did say we were at war, not trade war, with the US. When he spoke to reporters.

wirebeads@lemmy.ca · 19 pts · 4d (2 replies)

Death to Donald Trump.

HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 4d

Only thing it seems that he won't be able to weasel out of.

We can all be glad that for now, money and a lack of empathy cannot cheat death.

veeesix@lemmy.ca · 16 pts · 4d

By all means, keep flying Boeing.

OldCrow@lemmy.ca · 13 pts · 4d

How can anyone rely on anything this person says?

AzuranAurora@piefed.ca · 13 pts · 4d

Just fucking die already.

JiveTurkey@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 4d

I think we've established American made aircraft are kind of shitty.

OldCrow@lemmy.ca · 10 pts · 4d

Oh no! Anyway...

ivanvector@piefed.ca · 8 pts · 3d (1 reply)

As many people have pointed out, Bombardier already does build in the US. They have some form of operations in 20 US states and a supplier network covering 47, and the company estimates it supports tens of thousands of American jobs.

Jaysyn@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2d

the company estimates it supports tens of thousands of American jobs.

Not for long if they are smart.

bassad@jlai.lu · 8 pts · 4d

So no Canadair for US?

Enjoy your fat forest fires

ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca · 7 pts · 4d

No problem. We shouldn't be trading with the US at the best of times.

melsaskca@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 2d (1 reply)

Grew up in the Canadian prairies. As a child I heard the word "Bomba Deer" bandied about. I think it was snow machines of some sort. I now wonder if they meant "Bom-bard-eee-ay".

OrteilGenou@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2d

It's correctly pronounced "bombadeer" if you're a WW2 pilot though

Leviathan@fedinsfw.app · 1 pts · 3d

I wouldn't be surprised if they complied, they basically moved people to Dubai to sell them planes in the early oughts.

psycotica0@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 4d

Huh, as a Canadian I thought Bombardier just fucked us over on trains and streetcars, I didn't know they made planes sometimes too! 😛
