Public key authentication is more secure than nothing, and is more convenient than shared secrets and symmetric encryption, but bit for bit the secret material necessary for public key cryptographic schemes to be secure is more data than is required for symmetric algorithms.

But more to your point, public key cryptography is basically a usability nightmare. In order to talk to anyone you need to first validate their key using an entirely out of band scheme you already trust, and if you don't do that then all the end to end encryption in the world is theatre.

Of course I'm being hyperbolic, it's the internet, but seriously there a lot of people feeling secure with public key systems that are either totally insecure, or could be insecure and they wouldn't know, or are secure to some random bystander but insecure to people and organizations that are often included in people's threat models.

It's not hypocracy. They know time off is great. They know medical care is great. They know it's great to be housed and fed and not worried about a single paycheck being late ruining your entire life. Their philosophy is not that these things are unnecessary.

Their philosophy is that there are people who deserve these nice things, namely them and people like them, and that other people deserve to suffer. And that every nice thing they get that other people don't, further separates them from the people they don't like.

Some people who believe these things may actually truly believe that the carrot of a better life ahead of you, and the sticks of poverty behind you, might motivate you to innovate or improve yourself in some way. Some of them might believe that the suffering is important, because without it no one would ever do anything.

But I think a lot of them don't even think that. They just like having things other people want.

I do wonder if they plan to draw a line somewhere in "how AI" the image needs to be. Like, if it's a raw photo, that's fine. If it's enhanced by filters or something, probably not AI fair to say.

But what about the, like, magic eraser and infilling? If I use a tool to erase a bunch of people from a bridge and draw new parts of bridge that weren't in the original photo... is that AI?

If I use AI to pull a mask and cut someone out from the background, and then put them overtop of a stock background, that uses AI to do work I could have done by hand. Probably fine. But what if I use AI to paint a new background that didn't exist before this photo. Is that AI?

If I take a picture of me in a real place, doing a real thing, and then use AI infill to paint a different face onto my face so it's not me anymore, but the rest of the photo including my body is real, is it AI because that person doesn't exist?

I just feel like if you've seen one comic about a dolphin tearing through someone's asshole and falling in love with a woman only to be cuckolded by her dog, you've seen them all...

I remember when art was creative, unique, and surprising...

😉

Maybe I'm focusing on the wrong part but... a thousand dollars in damages? I know a lot of people in the states can't rub two dimes together, but a thousand dollars is like... nothing. Especially for the government and not some guy working two jobs.

They're claiming he should go to jail for 10 years for maybe causing a thousand dollars of damage to public property? I bet a single church could put together a bake sale one time and raise a thousand dollars.

Obviously if the tables were flipped, and some guy was out there breaking drinking fountains and cutting down trees in a park I'd be pissed... but this doesn't even feel like an interesting lie!

To be fair, my example was illustrative. The equivalent would simply be:

3 5 8 + 2 * 17 36 9 / - + +

on xkcd #3277: Forth · c/xkcd · 2 pts · 7d
3
3 5
3 5 8
3 5 8 +
3 13
3 13 2
3 13 2 *
3 26
3 26 17
3 26 17 36
3 26 17 36 9
3 26 17 36 9 /
3 26 17 4
3 26 17 4 -
3 26 13
3 26 13 +
3 39

Or

3 + (((5 + 8) * 2) + (17 - (36 / 9)))

I love Godot, and this is great, but it's also probably inflated a bit because game jams are a great time to try things. New code, short time frame, low commitment.

That's not to say that it doesn't count, it totally does, and it's not to say that it's not great advertising, and some people were likely impressed and will start using it in their day jobs. But it isn't necessarily representative of the industry, even the indie industry. For some people it will unfortunately have been a summer fling...

But I bet in a few weeks there'll be a ton of videos called like "I used this FREE engine and you wouldn't believe what I thought!!!" 😛

I like what you were going for, but I'm pretty sure "that" is "ðat", and "þat" would be like "thot", but with an "a". I think.

The difference between them is ð is voiced, as in your throat is making sound and vibrating, whereas þ is voiceless, meaning it's just air and your throat is still, but the rest of your mouth is in the same shape.

This is similar to how, for my accent at least, "v" and "f" are the same mouth shape, and one is voiced and the other isn't.

In the link you posted to the original question, it has a section on self hosting. That link takes you here where they say there are two servers.

Also, the documentation for Self Hosting basically starts by saying there are two servers.

I'm not sure how you self hosted it without hearing about it 😛

The really sad thing is that there's almost something to this. There are practical everyday skills that would be useful in an emergency.

The problem is that these doinks have decided that being an asshole or misogynist has anything to do with felling a tree or making a fucking cottage. No one thinks fixing a car is Toxic Masculinity dipshits. You're not Toxic because you can pour concrete, you're Toxic because you put your hand up the waitress's skirt, and that has nothing to do with God damn concrete.

You wanna be strong and supportive, how about being strong and supportive 365 days of the year when there isn't a zombie apocalypse or natural disaster, rather than fantasizing about one day being able to wield your skills as leverage to coerce people into having to put up with your bullshit.

Get fucked, I don't want to live in the compound you've decided you're king of, I'd rather feed the local wolves.
