My problem with RSS is the same as with email: I never remember to open it and read it.
A long time ago, I had a keyboard with an LCD screen on it (Logitech G15), and it had an RSS reader function. It would show me posts whenever my eyes happened to glance over it, without taking any screen real estate on my actual PC screen. It was a perfect setup for me.
Ever since I stopped using that keyboard (it was getting very old), I've missed this function. Never got a habit for RSS since. :(
I think I should make something like this with Arduino or something.
Yeah, I follow a few YouTube channels with it. I also use the “random Wikipedia article” feature. I used to also track a couple subreddits but I think that broke lately with one of Reddit’s updates.

Vivaldi offers a built in RSS reader. You get notifications when something drops. I think the Arduino idea is nice though.

I've been using the Feedbro extension for Firefox and quite like it. Some feeds display full or almost full articles directly in the reader;

On iOS this is my favorite RSS reader: feeeed
Free, really nice interface, and lots of really useful features.

Second this. It’s by far the best one I’ve found.

Looks cool. Do you use it for any other platform besides RSS?

I just opened Lemmy after hitting the bottom of my unread posts in Miniflux.

I wouldn't be able to run the Trailers community the way I do today without the RSS reader NewsBlur.

I don't spend anywhere near enough time reading to keep up with all my feeds, so the unread counts on the ones with longer posts just keep going up.
DaTingGoBrrr@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 7h
In FreshRSS you can automatically mark new posts as read to disable the unread feature all together.
I had to do that because I don't read everything. I use RSS as a news feed to scroll and click on whatever I am interested in reading.

I also use RSS, mostly for news but I‘m also subscribed to a couple of blogs. For me it‘s better than having to use a bunch of proprietary apps.

I like the concept of RSS I just can’t get the workflow down. Can I have email alerts sent to me?
