Now dude, if you had to eat crickets/grasshoppers, you have to admit frying them with chilies and scooping guac with them has to be the best option. Spicy, crunchy, full of protein, gluten free!

artyom@piefed.social · 15 pts · 3d

I've had them before. They taste like potato chips.

OldChicoAle@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 3d

You had me at gluten free.

I mean... shrimps is bugs.

threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 2d

Lobsters and crabs too. It's strange that so many people are fine with eating acquatic bugs, but will turn their nose up at the terrrestrial equivalents.

Looks expensive.

haha I remember going to Mexican restaurants as a kid in Texas and thinking it was a fancy place if they served food in a molcajete 😅 they're pretty common in Mexico... this is bar food at a place in Coyoacan

Lumidaub@feddit.org · 8 pts · 3d

I mean the food specifically. I'd get all my protein from insects if it was affordable.

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3d

Molcajete, dol sot... If it comes in a hot bowl it is fancy.

GrantUsEyes@piefed.zip · 3 pts · 3d

Good news: it's not!

rotkehle@feddit.org · 7 pts · 3d

I'd try it

voxthefox@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 7 pts · 3d

Had these in a queso Blanco before, pretty damn good.

Also had a few different ant moles and they were all pretty flavorful stuff

thatsnothowyoudoit@lemmy.ca · 7 pts · 3d

Had them crushed up on an elevated take on Mexican street corn in CDMX. Tasty.

Not sure I could handle them whole.

soyslurper2@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 3d

Might steal this if I ever get around to eating bugs

Mssr Chef des Rongeurs,
You've anticipated things.

Well done! :D

I've been wanting to try fried crickets ever since hearing that, at the time, the most popular stadium snack in America was fried sour cream & onion crickets. By all accounts I've seen from people who tried them, they taste basically identical to Pringles but more crunchy.

ratjefe@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 2d

Indeed, they'll take on the flavor of whatever you add to them just like potato chips. Otherwise, it's just a different crunchy texture.

Lauchmelder@feddit.org · 2 pts · 3d

cursed bibimbap

Unos buenos tacos con esta delicia! Dónde en Coyoacán?

ratjefe@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 2d

La Calaca, al lado de la plaza

GalacticGrapefruit@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2d

I'll eat anything once, especially if it's good enough to have been around longer than I've been alive.

But there are some things, I'll always try again. Like menudo. Mmmm... menudo. 🤤
