It's a pretty commonly utilized tactic that's especially employed by grifters who want to lend credence to the grift and political operatives who want to... lend credence to their grift. Occasionally though by people who want to gain notoriety in a field they're new in, keep up a streak of success if they're not sure about the book's quality, or do a book tour and have something to sell the talkshows. In all cases it's employed by people with more money than talent.

I wasn't questioning whether anyone has ever done this. I was questioning whether they have even a single piece of evidence suggesting that this particular person has done so or if this accusation is purely motivated by simply not liking them which does not justify spreading disinformation.

The source for the claim of booksales in the original article are the same sources who can't be trusted in mine, so it's a fair bet that influence peddling at the very least played a part. NYT wheels and deals off popular people who are authors, always has.

I have like 30+ folks blocked. My tolerance for bullshit is too low so I have switched to tagging people with reasons why I might go over the edge and block them.

He's 2 or 3 more interactions like this away from the block list. Any overt hate speech or dehumanizing shit still gets an instablock. But that ain't this guy afaik. He's just a douche with ridiculously unpopular opinions.

You can either take the information you get -- that people generally don't like you -- to change your behavior or not. That's all you bud.

And what did I do this time? I asked you to provide evidence for a claim you made. That's literally all I did. Had such evidence existed you would've provided it but you didn't. I called you out and you got offended by it.

"good deeds" meaning staged charity events, that either dint really pay out, or wasnt really effective. ALot influencers will "i donated to charity" in order to gain more followers.

As in, now matter how good they look on camera, its all an act for the camera. If you REALLY wanted to build wells or help the blind, turn off the camera and go do it.

I oscillate fairly hard on that. Its all an act, its a selfish thing at its heart, but good comes out of it, so he needs to be successful to do the good, but then he gets way more out of it than the beneficiaries, but without that he wouldnt be able to do the next one, which hes only doing to make himself money...

It leaves a sour taste in my mouth, but its a net positive overall I assume...

its mainly targeted towards gen Alpha audience, stupid gimmicks for a impressionable young audience. also the biggest drama was the LUNCHLY disaster with KSI, paul brother, and another influencer. they made a wierd commercial how "its the best lunchable-like food they ate" and all of them look they had a gun to thier heads.

Ah, Mr. Beast... I didn't know he had a book. I remember his vids. They were algo-hitting "do crazy stuff" survivor-like videos, along with philantrophy vids. Dude's got issues, but rarely do you get a youtuber that's super popular and isn't a problem offscreen.

All I know about him is that he has a very large YouTube audience and that he does particularly well among young adults. That is an audience that has (a little bit of) disposable income but is still learning how to make good use of their money. I assume Mr. Beast advertised his book non-stop on his channel, so his viewers went out and purchased it.
