I understand that trail running "feels" different in terms of atmosphere and culture but I don't think the things you list make a practical difference for the purposes of this comparison.
I'd also argue that the goals of the runners aren't that different. There are two types of goals in both kinds of running: to finish and enjoy the journey, or to push yourself and see how hard you can do against an outside standard, whether that's other competitors or the clock. Sure, the proportion of who is chasing which category of goal is different between trail and road running, but I don't buy into the idea that the motivations in general are different.
I'd be willing to bet that a much smaller number of runners will use them if the pre-filled cups are still available. Sounds like there are some lessons to learn from Paris, but only offering re-fills is doable. There are plenty of trail running races that make it work.
The goal is to make sure doctors, not advertising budgets, determine which medicines are prescribed, prevent medical overconsumption, and help keep health costs in check.
Ah yes, let's stick it to all those fake women who upend their entire lives, undergo constant discrimination, and in some cases invasive medical procedures so they can checks notes podium at an amateur local running event that offers no prizes
Yeah, I've run events up to 50 miles purely by feel (to include an ill-advised 50k in 97 degree heat and high humidity). As a middle or back of the pack runner, I think you're right. It's only if you get into the real competitive part of the roster that it would make a difference.
Some graphic designer Googles "Allianz Stadium", grabs the first photo and goes to town on the design? I don't even think I'd be mad, I'd think it's a cool Easter egg.
Running is a big part of my life, and I'm nowhere near her level. I would imagine I'd be grieving pretty hard if someone told me I couldn't run anymore, even if I were grateful to still be alive.
20km a week isn't nearly enough to finish a marathon safely. You'd likely want closer to 50km a week if you don't want it to be a suckfest. And why no walking? I think your advice is highly specific to a small sample size of runners

Aside from the outcome, it's crazy that in 2001 there were still enough "Internet non-users" to make gathering data on them statistically significant
Usually these things are mutually incompatible
What a wild concept

Out of all the dumb shit he's done, somehow that's the least harmful

The story is somehow even weirder than the headline.
Yeah but in the case the taxpayer dollars would be delivering a service, getting the advertisers to deliver on their promises

Why don't they just institute wave starts 15 minutes apart, first come, first served?

He's a badass, not Satan!
Has anyone worn these? Do they squeak every time you take a step running on normal outdoor surfaces?
