Well ... you and I aren't ... the chain of command not refusing the orders and the people giving them are ... but we're all unfortunately involuntary complicit because our tax dollars are paying for it ... I hate this reality.

we have had a solution to this for ages ... I've lived in rural places without fiber where there is a Microwave repeater at the distribution point and you setup a dish in your house to receive it.

I was a good 2 - 3 miles away from the uplink and I still got gigabit speeds. It was very sensitive to weather .... but it beats not having broadband at all.

Ah yes, the core switch local loop ... my favorite way to force the network team to enable STP

The one thing C suite execs and AI have in common is that they're both really good at being confidently wrong.

took you long enough XD, IDK of anyone has already told you but there's a tool to migrate all your subreddits to similar communities, and a script to overwrite all your comments for privacy's sake.

There's also a great community finder tool you should check out, on this side any lemmy instance can sub to any community on any other lemmy instance so you may want to subscrive to several communities with the same theme in more than one instance.

This is one of them

This is another: https://sub.rehab/

Find you a B2B position .... it's still glorified service desk, but at least you're dealing with your own kind instead of shudders Normies

Edit: I just realize B2B can still be the general computer literate populace ... I don't quite know how to call this type of job. L3 support?

We deal with other engineers, the customer's in house IT team calls us for support with our specific product, but we don't deal with the end users or the stakeholders, only engineer to engineer.

for a miini PC I recomend the M720q from Lenovo ... it's kind of overkill but it has a PCIE slot which means you can add a network card inside the original case and because it's 16x you can go up to 10G if you wanted to.

I add external 2.5G cards on my other models via the USB3.0 ports but it's messy and then I have to setup LACP on the switch
